NSW Rego - Weight Tax

I just renewed the rego on my NC and noticed in the itemised fees that the majority of the cost is a "Weight Tax" of $240. The only other cost was a $65 registration fee. I then googled the weight tax and found this info:

http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registr ... costs.html
Light vehicles (up to 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass) attract motor vehicle tax based on the tare (unladen) weight of the vehicle. The more it weighs, the higher the vehicle tax. In addition, vehicles used for business purposes attract a higher vehicle tax than those for private use.

Private use up to 975kg is $207 and 976-1154kg is $240. The tare weight listed for my NC is 1100kg so it's firmly in the second bracket. I then got curious about my ND, and checked the tare weight and it is 985kg ... tantalisingly only 10kg over the first bracket. So close to saving $33 per year on rego!

I seem to recall the tare weight for the NA6 was listed at around 955kg which means cheaper rego (although CTP is a killer). Can someone confirm?

That sounds about right. My 10AE has the tare listed as 998kg. I would have thought the wet weight would have been about 100kg heaver than that which is about where it is at the moment. 1096kg with a tank of fuel according the SMSP scales. Still a porker. :D

Hey Bryan. My 91 NA6 rego shows tare weight as a sprightly 930kg.

My grey import NA6 was weighbridged by the previous owner with, I think, a full tank of fuel and B&D roll cage. And I suspect he may have been sitting in it too. 1020 kg. Bloody idiot.
