HANS Device Video

Postby Red_Bullet » Thu Aug 03, 2017 12:34 am

Here is a little something that one of the OzRenaultsport people posted up over on their forum. I'm glad we don't see stuff like this going on.

I hope the other driver got a holiday after that!! Though he did signal his intention earlier, and that might have given pause to the overtaker, that is no excuse. I can relate to this, having been the 'victim' after failing to get the hint from similar behaviour.

There is a similarly graphic vid of a practice shunt at Lakeside (IIRC) where a Yaris rear-ends a stopped car, in one of the HANS-related threads a year or so ago.

That was Scott Dean in the Yaris. I'd be very surprised if he would have survived without the HANS.

Here's Scott's video, crash at 3 minutes:

And here's another great example of HANS vs no HANS, driver and codriver in a rally crash. Can't get much better a comparison than the same crash at the same time.

Was the weather really ok for the session to continue with the red car parked where it was?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

It left the pit lane, immediately lost oil pressure and pulled over. Unfortunately the rain washed the oil down into the apex where the yaris hit it. It was only qualifying, arguable whether it's even worth running qualifying with weather that bad, but it's equal ground for everybody running I suppose.

Also, if I recall correctly that was the first event after Scott bought his hans device.

Porsche driver in the first vid is an absolute knob. He should be banned for life!

No doubt that HANS is a great idea, but you need to use it (obviously) with a properly set up harness and also with a roll cage. HANS in a roof crush situation (i.e. without a cage) can create a dangerous situation.
