I have a single axle Tilta Trailer which I love. Its also open floor which makes working on the car very easy.
However I store the trailer in a shed, so to load the car just to look under it/work on it, I have to hitch up the tow car, pull the trailer out of the shed, drive the MX5 into the shed, load the MX5 on the trailer, then reverse the loaded trailer back into shed (through a rather narrow garage door).
What I would like to do (but haven't seen anything like this), is turn the unloaded trailer around in the shed and mount the hitch to the far wall/floor so I can simply drive the MX5 into the shed and straight up onto the trailer. This can also double as storage of the MX5 on the trailer when I need the room, plus I can load the trailer, drop dolly wheel and turn the loaded trailer around to connect to the tow car.
Googling, I can't find anything relating to a towball on a post that bolts to the floor, but I guess I could get one made up easily enough.
What I am most concerned about is the downward momentum when the trailer "tilts".
Hitched to the car when the tilt comes crashing down the tow car springs take the compression and its all sweet. If the trailer was mounted to a solid post, the trailer itself will have to absorb this impact and I'd be worried the hitch or A-arms would simply snap, bend or break under the force.
Has anyone seen any floor mount trailer hitch like this?
I'd think the post the ball is mounted to would need to have a spring in it? I've seen tow bar weight scales, but they don't actually have a ball on the top and I don't think they'd stand up to the repeated compression of the tilt trailer dropping on it.
