I've searched, but it appears that there is no thread for what 5 owners have named their cars with a brief background story so we know who's who in the zoo, (forgive me if there is and I missed it.)
So here goes for a said thread for what you named your 5!

Story;
Bought a few years ago, started out with one Idea for a mild engine build, but lost my s*** as usual and went nuts. Originally called "red frog" cause it looked like one- and I like red frogs, but re named in a hail of vodka, AC/DC music and laughs after my wife compared the thing to a problematic middle child that caused years of "growing pain" grief between "dad and mum."

2016 grey ND 2 GT. Called Emma (Emma X 5).

My wife reckons Emma is a lipstick lesbian because she is butch, I reckon she just has a nice childbearing set of hips that she likes to swing side to side in the wet .

Patchy is patchy because she was several different colors for about a decade.

she's all red now but the front bumper has yellow shining through again.

she was part primer,

now shes 10 different shades of red.....with a touch of yellow sticking through.

originally she was Classic red. She is again classic red......but different shades of red.....

then 1 day almost a decade ago.....she was getting ready for a paint job march 2008





that paint job had an alergic reaction with the primer below.
I got moisture bubbles everywhere


so a few years later......she got redone....by rattle can.
but never totally finished

that was about 2009

she was like this for a good 5 or 6 years. I'd lost total interest.


then eventually
she was all red again because passion was re-discovered.

this is how she is right now ...with a little yellow peeking through......




she will always be Patchy, she's been part of this forum since mid 2001 when it originally started as Auscartalk.com.

Background:
I needed another car to replace my beloved 1982 Mitsubishi JA Starion, a car I'd owned and loved for over 20 years but was suffering cancer (aka rust).
The next car needed to be different to "The Staz" (my brother REALLY hated that name, cringed every time I said it, so I stuck with it) and more fun to drive so that I wouldn't miss her so an MX5 was the perfect choice.
In stock form, the SE is an underwhelming turbo-charged car, especially after the Starion, where the adrenalin really got going when you planted your right foot, so I was easily lured to the darkside's quest for "MOAR POWA"!
I've always named my cars; as kids we'd give names to distinctive cars which personalised them and everyone knew the car we were talking about just by name, even if we didn't know who owned the car.
The NB's rear wheel arches are wider than the NA's and on release, many writers wrote that the NB has "wider hips" than the NA - if you stand directly behind an NA and then an NB you will notice this and see why they referred to them as "hips", they're similar to the those of a curvaceous woman without going too far like Kim Kardashian.
The NB is "curvier" everywhere than the NA and the interior is completely different. The two centre air vents are mounted high on the dashboard and where they come together at the top always reminds me of cleavage.
NAs and NBs are pretty little things so the car needed a feminine name that reflected its looks.

I'm in LUST with Salma Hayek, a tiny, incredibly beautiful and curvaceous lady but the name "Salma" just wasn't right:

Since MX5s were inspired by classic roadsters of the past, I decided to name my car after a classic, beautiful and curvaceous lady, "Gina Lollobrigida":

Mods: Lots of little things, some cosmetic, some performance, not very advanced compared to many other SE's out there.....

Story: Purchased on a bit of a whim (less than 2 weeks from first thinking about the concept of a convertible to sitting in the driveway) partly for a bit of a long term tinker project, partly just for the fun of driving it. She initially got her name because like Kate she is absolutely gorgeous, and like the character Selene she plays she dresses mostly in dark greys and black leather.



Unfortunately she also later lived up to her character's nature, A vampiric 'Death Dealer', and promtly bit hard when I didn't show her a proper level of respect when driving in damp conditions....

A close friend and childhood role model named his guitars and car after pompous, Beverly Hills style, private school-esque rich people. He named his Corolla 'Perry' and his main touring guitar 'Damien.'
I followed suite with my second mx5, since the NB never was quite silly enough to get a silly name.

Actually maybe it's worth telling the story ...

In a distant life I took a program management contract. The project teams were in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. The paying customer was named Trevor. I lived in the city and commuted out there by tram. That was fine until we decided to form a new project, to be located in a subsidiary's office near the CBD. That was pretty good for a couple of reasons. First it was close to home and second this office was on the first floor of a three story designer building in which all the other businesses were modelling agencies. This was my first experience of working in an office whose location had been selected purely for its breathtaking views - our team room surrounded the glassed in central stairway. Selection of staff for this office seemed to have followed the same theme as well. I had a team of development geeks working there who were pretty much incoherent for half the day, suffering from beautiful woman syndrome. I made it worse by regularly asking them to go and speak to the local staffers to get feedback. That was all in contrast to their old office in the suburban HQ which was almost all blokes, except for the accounting office which was all female and, for the geeks, had become a reverse sexual harrassment minefield.

Anyway, public transport would not get me quickly between the sites. All of a sudden I needed a car that was light and easy to manage in tight laneways and crowded parking. So we bought an NA8 as a practical inner city car. It became even more practical when we found that you could drive under the office carpark boomgate in it simply by leaning forward and pushing the boom up an inch or two as you drove under it.

The car became called Trevor because he's the one who secured this office for the project - so he was the reason we had to buy the car. In any case, calling the car Trevor created amusement for project team meetings. Like if I said I was taking Trevor somewhere then they had to think whether I meant Trevor the boss or the car or maybe both.

This is the first car I have ever named, and I've had a few. The Ladies in my club call her Bruce, so I have named it Bruth,Bruce with a lisp

Backstory: My wife and I have always had a habit of naming our cars for the last name of the previous owner. Our first car together was a black Hilux 2wd ute that we bought from a Toyota mechanic, Mr Andrew Rossiter, and so this car became 'Rossiter'. Our next car was a black TJ Wrangler that we purchased from a Miss Renee Morgan - and so 'Morgan' it was. We currently have a white Hilux purchased from a Mr Lee, and a Landcruiser that is an ex-mine rental from Budget that was used by BHP Billiton (look carefully and you can still see the BHP logo outline sunk into the paint) - 'Billi'.

The previous owner of The White Mouse (we are the third owners) was a Mr Chris Ladyman, and so it follows that...



...and so The White Mouse it is.
