HI, MX5 NB2 Starting PROBLEM - NEED HELP, PLS, ta?

**Can anyone recommend a decent & reasonably priced, good local Melb Vic, MAZDA, or MX-5 MOBILE AUTO ELEC/MECHANIC, with DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM FOR 2001 MAZDA NB2 MX5 6sp?**

**Also, who has an educated guess, or experience, with the problem below?**

THE CAR CRANKS HARD & WELL FOR LONG SPURTS, BUT DOESN'T FIRE, OR SPLUTTER. CAN HEAR PETROL PUMP CLICK AT START & LEADS SPARK, BUT IT SOUNDS DRY, WITH NO FUEL & NO FUMES IN TAIL PIPE. THE LAST FEW TIMES IT STARTED, TOOK A LOT LONGER, BUT CAR RAN WELL & SMOOTH. NO INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. B4B5 MAIN RELAY FUSE SEEMS OK, BUT I SUSPECT CRANK CPS &/OR CAM CAS ANGLE SENSORS, WHICH I PURCHASED, BUT NEED FITTING BY a mechanic, IF THEY'RE AT FAULT. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TEST CAR & REPLACE BOTH THESE PARTS?

MANY THANKS GLENN CBD NORTH MELB :NB8B:

Are the plugs wet or dry?

As said on Facebook changing the cam angle sensor is simple and takes a few minutes.

Pull the fuel lines in he engine bay and crank the car.
If no fuel comes out, fuel pump is dead. (Or there's a huge blockage, but usually It's pump)

That's what it sounds like to me.

Believe the click you're hearing when initially turning the ignition key is the EGI relay in the engine bay fuse box not the fuel pump.
So in terms in terms of fuel, spark, air, from the above it seems you have spark & air but not fuel.
So from what you've told us it sounds like fuel pump or fuel pump wiring plug &/or the connector at the inside top of the fuel tank.
James of the MX5 Centre merged with Tracksformations & moved to 33 Stubbs St Kensington 9376 4812, if they're still there it might be worth asking if they can recommend someone, as I believe initially at least James was collaborating with someone who was still doing some work on MX5s.

TA FOR MSGS. PS. WILL BUY & TRY, "START YA BAST ARD", IN AIR FILTER INTAKE, OR THROTTLE BODY INTAKE TUBE, AS fuel PRESSURE MAY BE LOW, IT'S 15YO & 222K KMS; OR FILTER BLOCKED,
BUT UNLIKELY, AS I COULD FEEL WHEN THEY GET BLOCKED IN MY NISSANS?

ta, sorry, more a faint pump drone, or hum, for a few secs, than a click, but it's at the rear, but louder in X-Trail

ta, dunno, not removed as yet, as suspected to be dry, no splutter, or fumes

I would not be putting Start you bastard into it- thats for old carby cars and will not fix anything. MX-5 is pretty standard and you could expect most mechanics to know what to look for. Readouts for your car are done with standard OBD equipment. I don't quite get the point of doing a home diagnosis if the car is going to be addressed by a mechanic. My guess is that if a car is covered by RACV you may even get a tow. The local Bursons can nearly always recommend local repairers and this may include mobile providers.Try the nbr 93 mentioned Kensington is reasonably close. Clearly Mazda dealers can do it but your choice.

On the intake side you should see two rubber lines going onto a pair of metal hardlines, just behind the charcoal canister and coming up from next to the frame.

One is fuel in, the other tank return.

Just pull them off (note which is which) and give the car a crank (no need to crank much, less than a second should be enough to see fuel come out)
