G'day, I'm looking at a manual 2013 with the PRHT and I'm not sure what the differences are between the standard one and the "sports" model? The one I looked at has Recaro seats and non factory wheels (Speedy brand).

Thanks.

Sports model came with Recaro seats ( great seats with a waiting list if anyone has some for sale) and BBS (wolverine) mag wheels, that's the only difference afaik, Paul

This review mentions some slight (very slight!) throttle and braking differences, and a little less weight.

Honestly though, if you just think of it as a 2013 MX5 with nice seats and some different wheels, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. Seems like the one I looked at has had the original BBS wheels replaced and some unknown Chinese brand tires put on it. I'm always a little bit suspicious when an otherwise good car has very cheap tires on it?

People can put cheap tyres on for that very reason- cheap for a sale- the tyres are not a deal breaker. The known history of the car is more impotant- KLms , owners, service records, body condition, evidence of body damage etc. The VIN for the car divulges what it is - you can check that with Mazda or check the service / owners records etc. 3 year old car probably done about 40,000 or less i.e. one set of tyres.

Morlock has got it. A set of oem or proper after-market wheels (e.g. Enkei, who make oem mazda wheels) can always be added if the rest of the package is a good deal.

It's a dealer car with about 50,000 km, so cant ask previous owner about history (only logbooks to go by) Still not sure why the BBS wheel would be replaced?

A few possibilities... one (or more) were damaged? Perhaps they didn't like how they looked? Perhaps they sold them for a tidy sum before trade-in?

My money would be on the latter. If the wheels weren't going to affect the value of the trade too much, why not pull 'em off and sell em for some easy money?

You forget that the vast majority of car owners are not enthusiasts, nor are they aware of the safety aspect of tyres and therefore, to them, the only difference between $70 Diamondback and $170 Bridgestone is simply price, so why would they spend $400 more for something that does that exact same job.

Thanks for all the info. The car has been sold to some happy person, so I'm still on the lookout for a red or white post 2009 PRHT.
