Soft Top on an ND

Hi ND owners

My brother as one of the first batch of 2.0GT ND's. Loves it. It is replacing a 1970's Alfa Spyder.

He has a problem with the inside of the soft top. He has told me where the internal inner lining of the soft top meets the rear window there is a clip along the top of the window. I have not seen it, and it does not sound like my NC. He says that the black material at top of photo folds over into a plastic U shaped sleeve. On bumps the material is unclipping. As he lives in the country the clip keeps undoing. Before he takes it back to the dealer he wanted to know if anybody else was having the same problem.

He is dealing with a small country dealership who are well meaning but have no idea about the car - first MX5 sold in awhile. Was testing the water to see if this was an endemic issue or a one off :)

Good helpful post and obviously discussing/sharing/informing is a key benefit of this forum.I'm sure there will be others out of the factory like this so good heads up for ND owners.

Peter.

My brother got the car to the dealer. It turns out there are two problems with the ND roof, the inner lining over the rear window and the headboard. It seems the aluminium in the headboard is not properly secured. A few owners have reported problems. He may have struck trouble sooner due to his relatively high mileage.
There is a delay before work can be done, while Mazda specifies and approves the required repairs.

Keep you posted.
