Anyone considering the Fiat 124?

The Fiat 124 was just announced today. Since it's a MX5 underbody, I am wondering whether anyone is considering the 124 instead of the Miata? What are your thoughts on it?

Looks like a badly designed body kit.
I don't mind the dark tan interior option or the wheels, even if they are massive.

Looks kind of like a Frankencar, but I'd be interested in seeing how the car drives with the 1.4 turbo engine.

The bonnet was obviously inspired by the flarper of the Blue Whale:

That's "The my word of the day", flarper - the scientific term for the extra skin under the chin is called the Flarper (I had to look that up).

Looks like the love child of a NC and a slightly old Jag.

Lokiel however the whale would have to be floating upside down to match the bonnet.

Nice word of the day though.

Doesn't look bad in white.

Will be interesting to see what styling changes are made for the Abarth version as the whole nose (from about a 1/3rd of the way down each front fender) appears to be a single unit.

Apparently a little more luggage space in the boot which is not a bad thing for the cafe cruiser.
I think it really draws from the classic Alfa Spider especially at the rear.

The 2 grill treatments leaves me a bit lost but otherwise a a good interpretation to their design style. With the Abarth motor could be a really good car and even the 1.4 turbo is meant to be a little more mid range then the mazda 1.5.

Not in Black but i do like it.

Loving the White

If it has the ND type seats in it then it's a 'NO"...

Worst seats in any car i have ever sat in for my body shape. L5,S3 damage from racing personal watercraft years ago :frown:

Even the recaro 's are a little tight on the shoulders for me.

( Envious of the folk that can get comfortable in a ND )

I'd suggest waaaaayyyy more mid range than a nat asp 1.5.

Actually the base 124 with 1.4T in US spec has 5hp more and 25% more torque (torque is much lower in the rev range too, 2500 Vs 4600 RPM) than the 2.0L SAG in the Mazda!
The Euro spec 124 has the same engine with a lower state of tune, somewhere between the 1.5 & 2.0 SAG, I wonder what tune the Australian version will get?

The Abarth is expected to have significantly more although which engine it will use is yet to be disclosed......*
* Speculation is for a 1.4T with a higher state of tune, a 1.7T from the econo-box Alfa cars with cast iron block or *Wishful thinking* the 1.75T all Alloy engine from the Afla 4C.

Seats get quite a different treatment to the ND, however it is unclear at this stage whether they use the same structure.....

Also note from this picture the difference of the design of the door cards, you actually get a real 'grab handle'.
