Hi all,

I have a potential buyer for a NB engine that i have.
He is in VIC and i am in Sydney.

Is anyone travelling through that has the vehicle and room to fit the engine?

I will pay you obviously.

I would organise a courier except being in a apartment complex the courier truck would not be able to get into the garage area.
A normal ute etc is fine though.

can the courier pickup from the street?

you'll likely need to put the engine onto a pallet anyway. so maybe just buy a few caster wheels and stick them on the pallet first to make it easy to move.

Or have a friend over and carry it to the street, two people can lift and carry a B6, and the BP is about the same size.
Only hard part is getting a decent handhold, but you can always hook a chain through the lift plates and to a bit of timber to use as a grab hold.

you will have to do some homework- an engine is a real weight and freight co's and couriers etc don't just pick up pallets manually anymore. You start taking about fork lifts or pallets trucks etc It would not be cheap either to do it professionally.

You can carry the engine out to the street for collection by 2 people. Not really a problem to use a courier. But it will need to be on a pallet to be able to be moved around. And as posted earlier. The cost can be huge to shipping. I'd guess $200 +/- $50 for SYD to MEL.

Yeah the buyer was happy enough to pay for postage but i doubt my abilty or secure it on a pallet.
Might have to just try and find a local buyer or someone willing to come pick it up

Engines are pretty easy to secure on a pallet. You need to pack under the sump with a couple of blocks of wood which will keep the engine sitting flat. Then you really just needs some vertical timber or metal straps bolted/screwed to the pallet and bolted to a couple of the various holes on the side of the block to stop the bottom moving around. A rope or strap over the top tied around a bolt into the head and then down to each side / corner of the pallet and it will be secure.

You should be able to do all this with a trip to the hardware store for some wood, rope and some longish bolts/screws and a couple of common tools ie a hand saw, a drill and a socket set.

If you're keen, cover the whole lot with a roll of thick glad wrap.

Alternatively, drain the oil and lay the whole engine on it's side. It won't do any damage to the engine and makes it more stable. Just make sure all the ports are taped up or blocked with a rag.

Also if you ship it with e-go you can drop it off at the depot... from there they have forklifts to move it around.

I'd just do this.
Manifolds off (also makes it less likely to have them knocked about during transit)
Drain the oil
plug the ports (rags, gladwrap, whatever)
Then lie it on the pallet and hook some ratchet straps over it.


If you really want to keep it upright then do the blocks of wood under the narrow bit of the sump and strap the lot down.
Or just grab an old tyre to support it (sump in the middle of the tyre, the tyre itself supports the rest and gives a little cushioning for bumps)

If you have access to pallets and a storeman and a forklift including shrink wrapping and a freight co its not that bad - but its still a pain. A shipper may do all that at a cost. Your time may be an issue in diy packing. Selling it locally is going to be a lot easier i.e. sold on the basis of local pick up. However if there is an interstate buyer then you need to get some quotes and conditions- i.e. they will tell you what they can do. The seller ( you) may have to deliver the engine to the carrier and then what are the conditions the other end i.e. does the seller collect etc. If its some co like E-go you probably have to deliver the goods in a shippable state and you work out how to get it to the depot. The buyer might not want to accept shipping costs until they know what these are.
If the goods get damaged in transit you might want to check who is responsible.
