Thanks Novice, I found the article an interesting read.
The main issue it raised with me was how useless the "supercars" were by comparison with an MX5.
What's the point of all that performance when you can't use it in reality.
It struck me that in this day and age, the 'supercars' have become nothing more than a 'poser's car' for rich people to crawl around in displaying their wealth.
They are all now automatics anyhow, so half the enjoyment of a sports car is gone.
When I first bought my MX5 I thought I would keep it for a few years and then buy a second-hand Cayman or Boxster S but the more restrictive our governments get about 'road-safety issues' the more convinced I become that an MX5 is the best option for the restricted motoring environment that we have inherited.
The MX5 should have come first.

Very very surprised that the MX5 did so poorly in the braking!!!!
It's so light....why doesn't it stop as well as heavier cars???

^ Better pads and stiffer springs to reduce the car pitching under brakes should get rid of a lot of the problem. Mazda making the rotors smaller than the NC (280mm) doesn't help but pads/Suspension is probably going to yield the biggest improvement.
It read like the suspension really let the car down and comparing it to the GT models of the other makes didn't help - that Cayman has 410mm carbon ceramic brakes..

Tyres.
Regular Bridgestone s001 on the MX5 vs Michelin Pilot Super Sport on just about everything else and some RE050A on the Golf.

I had a Cayman in Melbourne last week and they are very very nice. I could easily swap both my cars for one. Of course I would also need another 80K
