Pre-Purchase Inspection [Sydney]

Postby ksharp » Tue Aug 25, 2015 11:47 am

Hey guys

A friend is looking to purchase his first MX5 with limited mechanical knowledge.

Any recommendation as to a reputable mobile pre purchase inspector in the Sydney area would be greatly appreciated.

I know of Deckspeed

Cheers
Kev

I used Brian when I bought my NC www.ivi.net.au
Not an mx5 specialists but I don't think that's required. They're not complicated cars.
He was decently priced and fast turnaround. Inspection was at the sellers work and he gave me the go ahead over the phone, with full report by email.

I also dealt with him when I sold an Alfa, which resulted in a buyer walking away

I used Warren from http://www.roadcheck.com.au/ numerous times when I was purchasing my 300zx 4 years ago, very thorough reporting and sent through a ton of photos after each inspection. He organized everything, was a matter of giving him the sellers contact number and he would arrange through them when to inspect etc. Would definitely recommend having a chat with him to see if he will meet your needs (which I think he would)

State Roads were excellent with a very comprehensive report when I bought mine 4 years ago. They had a really good reputation (which is why I went with them).

What about some forum knowledge :D

There are a few of us on here that could probably help out
MY07 NC, Mazdaspeed Body, Ohlins, Full GWR Exhaust, 17x9 RPF1's, 4.1FGR and lots lots more

There are multiple choices but opinions or reports that you don't pay for are maybe not worth the paper they are not written on. I know of an expert in Melb who charges nothing to take an MX5 for a spin and offer a comment but I don't think its really of much value - ie things missed. NRMA and RACV offer written reports but you cannot just get this done for every car that one looks at. Some Car dealers i.e. the bigger ones often provide proper reports and or subject cars to close checks and discard i.e. move not so good cars to other less conspicuous dealers. If a car has done low Klms and has a known service record its quite possibly not going to be hard to get it checked. The mobile checkers may well be fine but I reckon if its checked then the person paying should get a written report.

It's good to find one that does a compression check as part of the inspection.

It's amazing what professionals spot that most enthusiasts might not.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yes deckers did a compression test on mine when I bought mine.

That should be plenty to go off. Amazing community here and thanks all for your support!
