How many people r going to buy the new model NE

I have 6 years to go on the mortgage, all going well. And based on the average model cycle of MX5s (3 models in 26 years = 8.67 years), I should be able to save up enough in the following 2.67 years to afford an NE. I can't wait. Does anyone have any inside info on specs or pricing? Will it have a self drive option? Are dealers taking orders? Will I be first in line?

Solid logic. Not sure I agree with the conclusion but I can see how you got there.

It is expected to be built in collaboration with a European, American or North Korean car company.
Just in! A spy photo of an artist's impression of what it could look like.

I have often thought about fitting a massive starter motor from early Holden into one of these.

I'm not sure there will be an NE. Time will tell.
ND sales will be a factor, as well as competing cars in the segment, demand for small affordable roadsters, the state of the global economy, changing demographics, as well as fuel consumption and emissions regulations (which are becoming ridiculous IMO).
However with the RX-8 discontinued, they will need at least one sports car to be the "Halo" car among the brand offerings. The one the family guys would like to have but buy the wagon, coz family. Toyota learned this mistake when they became the "white goods on wheels" brand in part, I believe, from discontinuing the MR2.
The next Mazda sports car will probably be all-electric. If so, I think it will be a completely new car, not the next gen MX-5.

Indeed, by 2025 it will be more a case of any, than NE.

there will be another if Mazda is in business. Sports cars are not going anywhere- they have been around for 100 years and light weight and fuel economy are not going to the impediments. What might be a endangered species eventually is the opposite- i.e. the lumbering tanks sucking up fuel ,sucking up resources ,and being so bloody ugly. Incidentally Toyota is far from a white goods manufacturer and Mazda can only dream at the sales of the 86 and BRZ.

Specifically referring to MX5s, not sports cars in general.
