NA headlight replacements

Hi all,
I am looking at replacing my stock headlights in my NA8 as they are a bit dull. I was going to just buy new bulbs to make them a bit brighter and whiter but I have read that some people recommend replacing the whole lamp and not just the bulb. Im not sure which way I should go, so does any one here have any recommendations? The lights don't need to be ultra bright, but whiter and a bit brighter would be good.
cheers

lots of posts on this.
Essentially you will get a real improvement if you have a good quality H4 insert e.g. Hella and use quality bulbs i.e. Oram or Philips. That assumes that your existing inserts have deteriorated i.e. dull reflector- if they have not read on. Another important thing is that your car is not having a current drop due to poor contacts including earth. This can be checked with a multi meter. An auto elect may well check it for you without cost. A good quality 7in round headlamp running a 60/55W H4 should give an excellent light output. PS if you bulbs are old then be aware that light output will drop when they are nearing their service life. Its pretty easy to replace bulb and that will also work in a replacement insert as well.

Great thanx for the info.
The reflectors seem fine, I just the bulbs are little lame. Both headlights are equal which indicates to me that they are getting full power?

Voltage drop is not uncommon on older cars so its a consideration- both getting full power- a multi meter should confirm. Replacing the bulbs is a good start and avoid skin contact with the bulbs - that reminder is usually on the bulb container.
