Hi guys, I have a BRG & tan 96 model NA, it is a LE but how do I identify what number it is? Did the later models have a numbered gear knob?
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, good question. They are certainly numbered. For example, read the text of this one that sold online:
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/deta ... =6&sdmvc=1So only 75 imported to Australia, and s/he certainly had a way of knowing it was #63 in that particular example.
Have you been through all the paperwork that came with the car?
Mazda might also be able to do a VIN search on it, which might reveal it?

Thanks for that. Yeah that's the only thing I could find to. I did see that car for sale and read the blurb. I am actually going to be selling my 96 LE in the next couple of weeks and I wanted to find the number to use that in the ad but seeing as there were only 75 it doesn't really worry me.
Thanks for the response though ;)

It is a 2 owner car an I have all the warranty booklet and manual but nothing on it. It was sold new at Grand Prix Mazda Brisbane.
The previous owner didn't know which number it was but the VIN is JMONA30P500100082.
Maybe it is build #1 ;)

Don't believe the 96-97 LE was publically numbered like earlier Neo Green LE was, but Mazda Aust may have an internal number system as the Carsales ad suggests. That said, seller may just have been quoting last two digits of the VIN in good faith. Mazda Australia <1800 034 411> or <CustomerServiceEnq@mazda.com.au>

True, thanks for that. I will just advertise as one of 75. They still seem to be holding their value pretty well.

Thank you for your email to Mazda Australia regarding your new MX-5.
We confirm this was a Mazda Australia import and a 1996 registered model. Please see specifications attached.
However, we are unable to provide the number vehicle this one was.
Thank you again for your enquiry and if we can ask you to please provide further owner information and we can update your details on our system.

Found this interesting article.
http://www.motoring.com.au/reviews/2005 ... -1997-3811It reckons 75 LEs came here in Jan 96, as we already know, but followed by an unspecified number in Jan 97; also limited, but no number placed on it.
[Cut the rest of my text... I was pondering if the 95 builds were numbered, as some owners have claimed, but not the 96 builds... but it doesn't seem so.]

Thanks madkeen and everyone else for the info. I will be a bit sad to see it go, I bought it for the wife originally and it needed new paint, roof and leather seats. It was meant to be a slow build but I picked up a NB that the wife loved so I have now finished off the LE and it looks mint. I would prefer to keep it but wifey loves 'her' NB so the the LE will be advertised shortly if anyone is interested.
