Re: Why hasn't the SP airbox been copyed ?
Probably only a tiny market for starters.
Those with an SP are limited (arent; there only 150 of them or so?) and people without an SP aren't really likely to want a replacement airbox since there's probably no benefit to an SP airbox over what they already have. (and most people who spend money to chance intakes do it for looks/noise)
So yeah, basically there's probably only a tiny market.
Also remember the SP was Australia only, so there won't even be an overseas market.
(personally I don't think it looks particularly nice either, the embossed "Mazda" seems a little bit chinese aftermarket to me)

Only 100 (some say 101) SPs were produced and the airbox is specific to that model and its turbo/intercooler plumbing which dictate its design.
The intercooler setup of the SP is awkward compared to many aftermarket solutions and the MSM/SE so the airbox is only desirable to those owning an SP.

SMB make a carbon fibre airbox of similar design if you want one;

Works Engineering has two CF options - one NB specific (pictured in my car) and another universal that has been easily adapted by NitroDann

Why does someone think the airbox is so special it requires copying? it's like any other airbox out there with ducting.

Points 1-3 are only valid if there is no point 4.
The fact that point 4 exists makes points 1-3 redundant.
Your options appear to be rare(101), aftermarket or custom.

I still am. That intake box is a killer though - $600-700 when I last checked and a minimum order is required.
The other one is more reasonably priced.

Phwoar, it is a nice looking piece of kit though.
The k&n metal pipe and filter deal is a few hundred bucks, so I'd still call the works one alright value since it's cf.
