Engine swapping party

Yesterday, Sat 1st Nov, a group of great MX-5 people came to my place to help swap the engine in my MX-5 racecar, and to also talk a lot, drink some wine/beer, have a great lunch and generally enjoy themselves.
A special thanks to Emily and Reggie. He worked like a trooper from 7:30am until he left mid-afternoon to go to Guy's 50th, and Emily was a fantastic source of knowledge and experience to help sort out the inevitable problems.

Thanks also to Alex, Ian & Rod for picking up tools and putting them to good use, although Rod was seen quietly muttering and caressing the genuine Vice Grip brand vice grips at one point!

it was great to have Natalie, Cathy and Carmel come along with their respective partners, although they seemed to be happy to hang about in the air-conditioned house with my wife with until later in the afternoon when it cooled down from the 36 deg high, and they then came out to cheer and heckle the mechanics.
So thanks to all of you. It was a great day, with lots of special people, and the engine swap would not have happened without every one of you.
Lets do it again some time! :-)

Sadly not running yet. I put most bits back on, changed oil, filled with coolant and thought it might be best to check it would turn over, before getting the ignition wiring sorted. Unfortunately as soon as the power was on, these was a bad fuel leak. It looks like a broken o-ring on one of the injectors. Oh well, we knew that was a risk.
It will be sorted soon for you :-)
Thanks again for your help. I couldn't keep up with you!

eughhh I hate photos so much. Queen of RBF lol

It was a great day though, with it mostly going to plan and only very minor complications.

I'll make sure i'm free next year for the 3rd time haha.

Only minor, that's good to know. I don't want to ever experience major complications!

Be careful what you wish for!

FYI, I replaced the injector o-rings and bodgied up the ignition coil wiring this evening, and it started :-))))))))
I only ran it for 20 seconds, and with only the headers on the engine, my ears are still ringing!
It sure has a lumpy idle :-)

The lumpy idle is the best part...apart from the first time you put your foot on the accelerator.

Based on the 2nd photo, I'd guess it's an SE engine (ie. Haz turboz).

At the last track day David said it wasn't a turbo, though that looks sneakingly like an SE engine
What you hiding there David?? :?

It's not a turbo... But it's got more power than a lot of turbo engines out there!
