I have no experience with superchargers but I have plenty of experience with turbos and I don't want to go that route. I imagine supercharging and turbocharging would be in the same ballpark cost wise.

Zero knowledge of this kit, but not sure you'd bother with the hassle of fitting cams when full exhaust and reflash gets you pretty much the same output (116rwkw) as their kit offers.

That's interesting. Do you mean a very open and loud exhaust?

I don't want another one of those, I don't mind something that makes a nice note but I would prefer it to be quiet. If I could gain something from a decat pipe I would probably do that.

Doesn't have to be really loud, but to improve the flow/reduce the restriction will usually mean it is a degree louder than standard..

fwiw, mine was noisier with out the cat, and no real seat of the pants difference. I put a hi flow one back in..

Dre, when you mentioned superchargers, I thought the link was going to be a SC kit.
Not sure on NCs but SC and turbo do roughly cost the same if buying a kit but turbo will give more oomph.
Saying that I'm supercharging my na6 and looking forward to the progressive boost in power.
Full exhaust means; headers, cat, cat back exhaust. Increase in size means increase in flow.. To a point. Too big will reduce back pressure. Hope that helps

Didn't mean to confuse you. Reason I ask is I wouldn't mind a mild upgrade that keeps the car relatively stock.

My NC has full exhaust and reflash and makes 104 kw atw, Charlie Browns made 112 kw. Don,t know of any NC to make 116 kw atw with fullexhaust and reflash.

It was CBs I was thinking of. I thought it made 115 which was almost what BBR were claiming. Guess I was 3kw out....

Yep mine made 112rwkW and 192Nm with GWR header, CAI, EcuTeK tune and the small race muffler which is too noisy for the road. That was up from the standard figure of 91rwkW.

Dre, head along to a Illawarra MX-5 Club run and see Peter Feutrill and take his NC for a run. His has headers, tune and a muffler fitter, so probably puts out around the 105+kW mark. That maybe enough for you. If not then chat with Graham F, he has a Cosworth supercharger fitted.

Remember that superchargers require an ECU tune which can take some time to get to run properly.

What's response like with a supercharger? Is it as responsive as NA or just a tad laggy or?

Dude, there is NO lag on a SC setup. I've read of people having 2psi at idle and full boost from 1,200 rpm. Again I stress that I no nothing about NCs.

The 2 psi at idle would be with a roots type blower, Danny's kit uses a centrafugal charger so boost would scale with rpm. It would just feel like a "bigger" motor.

Getting a bit crazy now but does anyone use the rx8 rotors? I'm sure I would have seen one by now if it was a simple affair.

My first question is why do you want to run RX8 rotors?

If it because you think with a supercharger you need better stopping power in the NC for road use, then forget it.

I’m doing trackwork that far exceeds any braking situation you would get on the road and the NC brakes, fitted with the right pads handle it fine.

But I think you have missed the most important step. Improvement to the handling of the car. Start here then move on to do the power mods.

It's small, it's light, it's powerful, it probably guzzles fuel and won't mount into an mx5 without going to considerable expense.

Just curious really.
