Greetings, as the MX does not have a spare - what is the best way to manage a flat tyre? Call RACQ? Buy a Mazda kit ($509) or make up your own with a small compressor and tyre 'goop' from SuperCheap?

As far as I know NA and NB all have spares, NC has a repair kit.

get the Mazda supplied compressor and some tyre plugs from Ebay, they'll do the trick

Regardless of whether you have a space saver or a repair kit many people still ring their breakdown service. There are probably more reasons to get road assistance than trying to change a wheel if a person is not aware of how to do it. As pointed out an NC does not have a space saver so a repair kit should be in the boot. You can also get a space saver from an RX8 if you can find one. If the Mazda repair kit is so expensive then an aftermarket one seems like an option.

Used it with the NC compressor for a roadside repair a few months ago when I picked up a 50mm roofing screw in a rear tyre - a tradie had spilled a box of them on the road.
Did over 150 km (at up to 100 km/hr) with the plug in before getting a professionally repair at a tyre place. Never lost any pressure in the meantime.
If you can remove and replace a wheel, you can use this. Depending on where the puncture is, you may not even need to remove the wheel to repair it.
I also have cover with RACQ Ultra which has proved invaluable for other reasons with other cars.

Interesting if you could swap the NA/NB spares and run with the kit instead or a goop can? Legal?

I keep this in my MX5 as well as 2 x bottles of slime.

I tested out the slime/plug on my sons quad bike and it worked a treat. The plug sealed the hole however there was still a small leak near the rim, slime injected, quad bike tyre pumped up and ridden around, leak fixed.

not in queensland. if the car comes with a spare, then it need to be in the car for RWC.

Ncop doesn't change that?

Not true. When I got my first car regoed they told me to take the spare out as it was marginal but a spare wasn't a rwc requirement.

That's how it is in Vic, spare flat or bald unroadworthy get rid of spare all OK.

we all have different perspectives but I would not even think about removing a space saver and if I had an NC I would get and RX8 spare. The goo idea was never a good one- unreliable too- just a plan by car makers to save a few dollars or make up for their shortfall in design - if the goo sits in a boot for 5-10 years no guarantee the product is still ok. I have heard that the goo can damage a tyre as well - maybe a myth though. The vast majority of people don't change their wheels and these days it can be quite dangerous with the traffic congestion. I would not be comfortable at all with non car minded people jacking up cars with soft ground, using the wrong jack point or not tightening studs properly etc. Too many punctures over the years for me to want a vehicles without that full size or temp spare. ,

There are pages about the NC spare issue, a space saver sounds wonderful until you need to use it and then get your road rim home, not to mention anything else that one may have in the boot. I have a plug kit, my BMW motorcycle came with a plug kit and a cylinder of CO2. If I happen to destroy a tyre there is always a hotel. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered.

However, this applies regardless of whether you use a repair kit, full size wheel or a space saver.

Mr. M. the majority of modern cars come with space saver or goo take your pick
If you have a front puncture you have to double handle to put the road wheel on the front and the space saver on the back
If going on a holiday with a RX8 space saver there is no room for luggage or the punctured wheel
Tyres are a lot better made than when I started driving in 1963
