UV Shirts wanted

Hi all,
The other weekend my Wife and I went to Brisbane to see a band play. The drive up was stinking hot and I think Cath got a spot of sunstroke.

Anyhow, my question is... Does anyone know of any "UV shirts" out there, that are light and breath, but would still protect us a little from the non-relenting sun? I did sent an email to the MX-5 owners of N.S.W. about their UV shirts on their "regalia" page, but never received a reply.

Thanks kindly in advance of any replies to this question.

Cheers, Wayne. (a.k.a. 5isalive) :NB8B:  :NB8B:

Hi Wayne,
Pure cotton business shirts over everything else, your local op-shop would be a good source.

When I worked for aus post the high vis shirts were fantasticly light and comfortable and wicked away sweat, the only downside being they reflected so much light I think they doubled the sun on your face.

Try googling skin cancer council, I think they have shirts made of the same stuff.

I'm with taminga 16. Pure cotton, long sleeved. Doesn't need to be a business shirt. I fly gliders in the summer for up to 6-7 hours under a perspex canopy, and I wouldn't wear anything else.
Cheers!

Call in to your local BCF store and have a look at the microfiber fishing shirts.

I use a fishing shirt, breaths really well but keeps the sun off.

If you go to any of the outdoor clothing shops they have some terrific shirts ideal for outdoors comfortable to wear well vented and wash and dry in a blink. Stores include Paddy Pallin, Kathmandu, Rays and Aussie Disposals. I have cotton and synthetic materials and often find the latter to be cooler. The one thing not to do is drive in open car when it gets to hot. Then there are hats another essential and sun screen etc. A typical brand is Huski and stores like Myers stock them but check them out.

Having worked outdoors for the past 30 years I have seen the advent of High visibility clothing and the mandatory use of same, synthetics are crap and I happily pay for my own retro reflective vest so that I can wear cotton shirts. Breathable synthetics, it's an oxymoron.

Rod, I have had a rethink on the flying, . Let me know when you are up next.

I'd suggest looking at outdoors/survival shops, or ones with tradies gear.

Both tend to offer sun protection stuff

Don't agree that synthetics are all crap. No doubt at all that many of the outdoor hikers shirts etc breathe very well and light weight. If people want workwear it's really a different market. When I work on my cars or out in the garden I wear heavier shirts or overalls or dust coat but not when I am sipping latte which I do plenty of. Incidentally the ladies are fussier than blokes most of the time so a hikers shirt might not cut it either.

Mr M,
A 10 hour shift on the Eastern Fwy in the height of summer is a sh*t load away from pissing about with your car. I might ask that you re-read my post, I did not suggest that "all synthetics are crap".

The OP asked for sun protection advice and my suggestion was cotton business shirts, simple.
Greg.
