Dupain is correct.Dupain wrote:bigdog wrote:Dupain, you are completely incorrect about Simmons wheels. They did not go 'bust'. The wheel making technology developed by Simmons was sold to an overseas company, and the wheel brand and designs were sold in Australia. Their wheels were engineered to meet the ADRs and Australian quality standards, regardless of the vehicle fitment. This meant that a wheel in 5x114 PCD for example had to be strong enough to handle fitment to a loaded Hilux ute or Falcon Wagon. Simmons were sticklers for quality and strength, that's why so many of their wheels are still in use. The cheap Chinese imports made it simply uneconomic to continue to produce wheels in Australia for a low volume market. As for your assertion that brakes are all the same, well I guess you make your choices and live (or not) with the consequences.
They went out of business, they may have sold some intellectual technology overseas but in reality is was not realistic to sell 3 piece wheels for $800-$1000 each when you can get Chinese set for $500.
huge difference there. The $200 chinese product is not a copycat product pretending to be a brand name. The chinese product says what it is, a suitable replacement.Dupain wrote:Say your laser colour printer. A set of toners from China, 4 colours $200. OEM toners, a set $900.
