And for all those wheel snobs out there....... http://www.autoindustriya.com/auto-industry-news/rota-wheels-warns-against-counterfeit-products.html

A lot of stuff that comes from China includes poor quality materials and low tolerances, but history has shown that it will get better. As for your statement, "brakes being brakes" isn't that a bit like saying that tyres are tyres?

Dupain, you are completely incorrect about Simmons wheels. They did not go 'bust'. The wheel making technology developed by Simmons was sold to an overseas company, and the wheel brand and designs were sold in Australia. Their wheels were engineered to meet the ADRs and Australian quality standards, regardless of the vehicle fitment. This meant that a wheel in 5x114 PCD for example had to be strong enough to handle fitment to a loaded Hilux ute or Falcon Wagon. Simmons were sticklers for quality and strength, that's why so many of their wheels are still in use. The cheap Chinese imports made it simply uneconomic to continue to produce wheels in Australia for a low volume market. As for your assertion that brakes are all the same, well I guess you make your choices and live (or not) with the consequences.

Dupain wrote:Yellow Speed Coilovers that everyone is buying is a Chinese/Taiwan copy of Tiens but half the price and are a much better quality.

I find the idea they are better quality very hard to believe given the only two uses I've found for yellow speeds is adding weight to the recycling pile or being a paper weight.

Yes some brands charge for a name. Some charge for the money spent on r&d.

Much cheaper to copy the one way that works then find it among the 30 ways that didn't.

As a general rule, I don't trust any company that doesn't have enough faith in their own products to stamp their own name on them. If these brakes are as good as Brembos or better then they will sell without having to leach of another companies IP.

Oh, and there is a difference between what happens when your print toner fails and when your brakes fail.

I have little knowledge of car products from China....;)

However I do have a bit of experience with building products......
There is NO WAY I'd be putting a cheap Chinese knock-off on my car....particularly is it's of structural significance

They can do great work, but, if they are cheating by using others brand name, there is a very Good chance they are also cheating with the product itself
i.e. no quality control, poor metallurgy, poor tolerances...pretty on the outside but rubbish below

Sure you may "luck out" but it's "Russian Roulette"

In my opinion....besides being illegal....not worth the risk

Wow! Willing to take risks with brakes!

Hope I'm never on the same stretch of road ...

Dupain wrote:These Chinese brakes are equal if not better than those Italian products. Pretty sure a Toyota is more reliable than a Ferrari let alone an Alfa.

Since when was Toyota Chinese?

If the Chinese product was better AND cheaper then car manufacturers would use them. Simple as that.

I was talking to my Son's father-in-law
He told me he once owned a 2002 BMW....it had a problem where it would stop after it warmed up
wait a few minutes and it would start again only to stop again 10 minutes down the road

Local mechanic couldn't fix it, so he took it to a BMW specialist
He said...easy fix, and pointed to a wall of old petrol pumps, but it will cost $500 for a genuine BMW petrol pump

Lots of people trying to save money installed a Chinese knock-off,
but once they heated up they would seize as the metals used weren't compatible
but they would start working again once they cooled down

I wouldn't want to be fanging it down Mt Nebo and have a brake fail or one locks up or a wheel snaps off
Perhaps no one has reported it....yet....but I've seen how the Chinese operate

I've been to China....most factories market Good products.....if you ask for detailed specifications
but most will also sell you a cheaper alternative, that isn't so Good, but it's cheap

My guess is stolen branding= crooks= suspect product

They went out of business, they may have sold some intellectual technology overseas but in reality is was not realistic to sell 3 piece wheels for $800-$1000 each when you can get Chinese set for $500.
Dupain is correct.

Nothing was wrong with the Simmons wheels. Just to manufacturer and make a profit from them when imports were easier and cheaper to come by put them out of business. All the tooling was brought by some guy in west Sydney from memory.

Dupain wrote:Say your laser colour printer. A set of toners from China, 4 colours $200. OEM toners, a set $900.
huge difference there. The $200 chinese product is not a copycat product pretending to be a brand name. The chinese product says what it is, a suitable replacement.

The OPs linked article is about a copycat product knockoff. Knockoffs are completely different to suitable replacements.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me lovem COWs

The Chinese make good products??? maybe some things, but fark there is no way I'll have a Chinese bag of sh*t in my fleets. WHY, just ask West National about the little heating problem last week. Now to comply with Aus ADRs buses MUST be fitted with "non flammable insulation", Eventually it will burn, but as one of the engineers from a certain bus manufacture in China has told me, "I check the insulation every week, because it is not if they change to a cheaper and non complying product but when."" Scary hey!!! And you know what, if your kids catch a school bus, chances are they will be riding in a Chinese bus because its a $350,000 bus, $30,000 cheaper than an Aussie made product. Trouble is all school buses in Qld and Vic must last for 25 years service, I know of at least 20 buses, some as new as 12 months ordered off the road due to major suspension and steering faults. The manufactures and distributors can't or won't try and fix most of them due to the fact that they are so poorly designed and built that they can't repair them without spending stupid money on re-engineering.
So who eventually pays to replace these "things", the tax payers, because the family run school bus operators go broke and someone has to step up and take over the runs, with finance from you guess it,
state government.

The worst outcome about cheap chinese buses coming to Australia, that quality proven products such as Custom Coaches, Mills Tui and quite a few others are finding that they can't compete because people buy cheap, and we are now losing the best in world manufacturing practices and products.

So yes we all know some people on here will fit this stuff, but for my sake stay away from Lakeside, QR and Nebo please.

Hey MattR, how about we go to Bathurst next Easter, run the 12 hour and probably win it,we won't run my Porker we'll run a Chery, there so good I've read somewhere, that we are sure to piss it in.
