Heater Air Direction Problems..

Postby ess » Mon Jun 09, 2014 6:36 pm

So all of a sudden, the slider for air direction no longer works, and all air goes straight to my feet, which makes it very difficult to, demist the windows as of late. I had a 'google' around but I'm not 100% sure on what the name of the thing I'm having a problem with is actually called.

If anyone had any links or ideas, that would be much appreciated.

For those who have seen my previous posts, I have all the mechanical issues sorted out in my mx5, and the car now runs beautifully. Sounds great, feels more responsive, etc.
I also took the advice of some; and my dad and I changed the spark plugs, oil, filters and so on on his car, and my mates mx5 as well.

try to look under the dash, it might be just something stuck there or the cable came loose

So is this just a reconnect and done job or would I need to try finding some parts? I'll have a look and try to find what may be the problem. Thanks guys.

Just look underneath first and you might find that cable/wire is hanging, just hook it back and it should work

If broken in between you might need parts, but likely one end has come loose. While you're checking under the dash operate the air flow direction lever to assist pinpointing fault.

mine was bent when I bought the car, pulled the console apart and had to bend the wire until it ran smoothly, haven't had trouble since. Fiddly but not too bad. hope it's just come loose though.
(If it is still attached, check for bending before assuming it's snapped elsewhere)

Do you have ac???

If you dont sometimes the tube connecting the blower fan to the rest of the ducting can come loose and it feels exactly like its permanently switched to blow onto your feet.

Just take the glove box off to look. Its 2 screws.

So for those who were wondering, I managed to fix this a while ago, but a clip had actually broken off, holding the cable for the air directions.. Cable ties made for a secure fix. :D
