Still hate the way Yanks pronounce "Mars-da" (and don't get me started on "Nee-sarn" or "Hun-day" - as a history nut, that last one sounds like it should be a holiday in honour of Atilla the Hun).

If Mazdas aren't a-holes how come Americans use whatever that language is they use to always pronounce it M"arse"da?

Being from America, And Speaking American, I can state without a doubt, We pronounce Mazda Correctly
It is the Aussie's that have changed it to Mazzzzda.
Perhaps because we have the letter Z and you have the letter ZED.

マツダ
Ma-tsu-da
No R sound in the Japanese version.
From memory Japanese has no "Zu" sound, so often "tsu" is used.
Anglicized version much closer to "ma-zu-da" than "marz-da"
If we want to be really correct it should be Toyo-Cork Kogyo.

Most younger Aussies often use US pronunciation often picked up from USA including words that were not used in Au. It's ok for Doc as it's heritage and schooling etc. Many words now have the wrong inflexions to the way I was taught and it's hard not repeat the things we hear on TV etc. We once had a culture of our own but it's being diluted. In UK the pronunciations are all over the place. The interview was pretty silly.

But...that IS the correct pronunciation!

To quote the ever eloquent Mike Skinner (a pom)...
The differences in language are just the bits you got wrong
Because we were the ones who invented the language
That, or just walk up to a random in the states and ask if you can 'bum a fag'. Goes down brilliantly.

Is this the voice of experience?
How long until you got out of hospital?

Wow! Talk about spectacularly off topic!
Morlock, the interview was from Jalopnik, so don't expect much sense. Especially with articles like this -
http://jalopnik.com/show-us-car-parts-that-look-like-animals-1580168453I was hoping there would be debate on Mazda design! Not US pronunciation!
Will the ND have a goofy smile? Or "confident"? Confidently goofy perhaps?

thanks Yan -for the explanation. I also get your point about us getting sidetracked with pronunciations. Goofy or smiling beats aggressive in my view- after all Bob Hall said that you get more smiles per gallon with an MX5.

The NB looks so damn pleased with itself, with a grin like it just told it's buddy that it just got laid.

To me, it almost feels like it's giving me a big cheesy thumbs up like "Heh-Hey!!! What's goin on buddy?1"

LOL @ Lokiel having a go at the "M-arse-dah" pronunciation. What do you think of the "mee-yaddah" then?

It's interesting how opinions differ like.. opinions, that the jalopnik piece implies the current Mazda designs are happier and less aggressive than other makes. In my opinion, the new Mazdas are THE most aggressive looking cars in the Australian market, without trying too hard (you know, swoopy headlights that go all the way around to the wheel arches, flowing bootlines from rear brakes lights that flow to wheel arches etc)
