Hey guys,

The battery in my 2001 nb8b shat itself.

I therefore need to buy a new battery ASAP.

I was just wondering which battery you guys prefer and where would be the best place to purchase one today. (As close as possible to Bankstown)

Don't buy an SSB battery. I did, ended up with 2 actually in less than 9 months, and they both leaked and made a big mess in the battery box. So I ditched them and got an OEM one because I know it will work and the original lasted 12 years.

Just go the OEM battery.
I made the mistake of replacing mine with a different brand (can't remember which brand off hand, but said it suited mx5 nb/boot) but it is about 3cm taller which screws with the hold down bracket which now sticks up higher making the timber cover not sit flush.

OEM Panasonic batteries are awesome if you can get one.

Is there any particular place to go for the OEM Panasonic battery? Im wanting to replace mine soon, was thinking aftermarket battery but oem would be better.

Ring a few dealers and see if they have stock and if the price might vary slightly.

Anyone have a ball park figure on what the OEM batteries cost?

Panasonic Batteries are around $350.


I use in Scooby a Odyssey pc1200 mjt.
You won't find a better battery. Ive had mine for 3 1/2 years now and car sometimes sits for 2-4 weeks without being dríven and powers a serious audio system.
Not cheap but I called these guys up and haggled and got delivered for a little over $320 I think.

Its really heavy though at 17kg. So if weights a concern, maybe not the best choice. Fits like a beauty in NB cavity.(just)

A lot of high end car audio guys run this Odyssey or the Stinger spv44. You can buy the Stinger from FHRX studios. I have one of these in my Subaru but the Odyssey is better.

My $120 Supercharge Gold MF43 is now 4 years old and hasn't skipped a beat. Didn't drive the car for 4 weeks over new years and she still fired up strong the next time I hopped in.

But you know...

7 years on my MF43. Only dríven once a fortnight now, have had periods of up to six weeks between starts, and zero issues. No corrosion, no smells. Just constant performance. For $99

buy the better battery esp if you are keeping the car- your cars battery lasted what 10 years or more. If its going to be sold in a few years the average punter would not know whats in the boot. The thing is with the average batteries they just die often soon after the warranty and really cars should not be left weeks without a trickle charger.

My 2006 Bravo diesel is still running the original unit (110,000+ klms) when I purchased the ute I added some INOX treatment to the battery. Weather it works or not , I do not know (but I like the theory). It is not unusual for this vehicle to sit for weeks on end and if it cranks and sounds lazy I might attach a trickle charger, less it feels neglected.

The product equivalent is just as important as the brand, get an assurance that what you purchase will do what you expect of it. There are still experts out there it is just that the Filthy Multi-nationals are making it hard for them to trade and Google has made us lazy. Remember customer service? and If you doubt what I am writing about call one of your service providers under a non de plum'e and ask them for a deal on your needs!

I Played in a charity golf day recently with pretty much all the players in the insurance game. The common theme across all the conversation throughout the whole day was how every one of them rely on the customers (you and me) just to roll over their policies every year with a decent increase and a fair chunk off the pay out value. They said the worst one was who I am insured with. Good one. I will be certainly checking my options next time its up for renewal.
Unless I get too lazy again and just renew.
