You probably couldn't drive it. On an NA8 at £750 I'd say the paint job is there to hide the rust.

Not necessarily so. I sold my 1.6 NA for the same price I bought is - 1,400GBP - and it was almost showroom pristine with not a speck of rust.
MX5s are very, very cheap in the UK.

Ah OK, I thought it was mainly the salt that made them so cheap there.
