Hi Guys,
I am thinking of getting a new roof for my 10AE. I want to get a mohair blue hood to suit the car. I am looking at getting it from MX5 Mania in NSW along with a new rain rail. Can anyone tell me where there is a good and reliable person/company that can remove the old roof and install the new one. I would prefer someone in the eastern burbs of Melbourne

Cheers, Robbo

Blackman auto trimmers in Morrabbin. Did some repair work on a previous soft top I had.
Or bring it around to my place in Chelsea, and I can help you do it.

Shop around for both the top and the installation. I ended up buying a Robbins top out of the US for hundreds less than anywhere here (Aussie dollar was doing well at the time too), and rang around locally for installation prices. I got quotes ranging from $400 to $1200+ just for the labour. I went with the cheapest guy in Newcastle, who also happened to be an approved Robbins installer, and he did a fantastic job. Go figure.

If the mohair is being supplied with the frame, installation is relatively easy. I removed and fitted a new top on my NA inside of two hours.
Fitting the mohair to a frame is not something I'd want to do on my own...

Prestige auto tops did a great job for me.
The guy said $500 to fit, I was like pfffft what kind of pansy doesn't fit their own roof?
Anyways I went back a week later to grovel for some help and he did the gluing and a check over for me for $50 bucks while I waited.
Roof looks nice, 7 year warranty, good service, would recommend.
Don't fit it yourself unless patience is a strength of yours. I was 2 steps away from double homicide until I figured out that it was best to remove the frame.

Thanks for the info guys. Have made contact with MX5 Factory in Ringwood and spoke to Dick Richie who said he can get a mohair top or if I like get one mtself and he will get his guy to fit it. I do not want to go nuts while trying to fit it myself.

You might already be aware, but if not, given your Melb eastern suburbs location, Prestige Tops are in East Bentleigh if you want to actually view some tops - they may even offer a fitting service:
