What year should my car be registered as?

FINALLY time to register my car (getting my license soon, hopefully.)
In the engine bay there is the VIN riveted to the car, in two places (original VIN and a mod plate). There's another plate though that came from hen the car was imported from Japan. The VIN on it has a typo (one of the letters has been typo'd as the next letter on the keyboard.
That plate is dated for 2000.
The previous owner registered the car with the VIN on the import plate, and registered it as a 2000 model, despite it being an NA6.
What VIN should it be registered as? And year?
and does the car itself have the year written on it somewhere? I think it's 1 89 or 90, but I'm not entirely sure which

SHould have two plates on it.
A build plate, put there by Mazda, whihc shows manufacture date/month.
And a compliance date, put there by a workshop, which shows the date the car was made to comply with Australian rules etc.
I would contact your local road agency (Vicroads or whatever equivalent wherever you are) and ask them.

above the radiator is a panel that only says the VIN
On the firewall is a blue modplate, code L03, date 9-2-00 (which seems to be an import modplate). Typo'd VIN
On the firewall is also a yellow import plate. Correct VIN, dated 02/00
Firewall also has some eunos plate. Says "NA6CE-130616". No VIN or dates
And there is yet another plate on the firewall which looks old and says "NA6CE-130616"
I can't seem to find any old dates.
The previous rego has the typo'd VIN (from the L03 mod plate) and is registered at 2000. Everywhere else has the correct VIN

It will be registered as a 2000 (as it was previously registered under that).
If I remember correctly, all cars get registered in Oz via their compliance date.

The shorter NA6CE130616 will likely be the Japanese VIN, they used a different system back then.
Aussie cars have the VIN stamped into the firewall, and also have a separate metal plate (usually riveted over near the brake booster) that shows the VIN and details like manufacture date etc.
I assumed the Japanese ones had the same plate, just with the Japanese VIN.
I still think the best bet is to just call whoever deals with registration in your state, since they're the ones who have the say at the end of yes/no in regards to rego.

Called up Qld transport and he said the yellow import plate is stamped by the Federal government, so presumably that will be considered the correct one.
As for year of manufacture, a reasonable guess will probably be made.
Worst case scenario, they'll make a fuss of it and do a bunch of history searches on the VINs

Since yours is a BRG/Neo LE, it will be a 90/91.
If you have a short nose crank, it will more than likely be a 1990 (logically guessing). A VIN of 'NA6CE-130616' indicates it is a short nose crankshaft, Eunos Roadster.
Most ADM BRG/Neo's are long nose crank and have a manufacture date of 1991. Eunos Roadsters were mainly 1990.

The NA6 number is the original chassis number as stamped on the firewall
The EUNOS plate is the original manufacturer plate (EUNOS/MAZDA)
Yellow plate is a personal import plate including the date the car was presented for rego in Australia
When it came to Australia (year 2000) as a personal import (PI) it would have been issued with a VIN which sometimes included part or all of the original chassis number. They usually all started with 6U9000………..
Blue plate is a Modification plate used in Qld only
The other plate is the Aust issued VIN stamped into a plate and rivetted to the rad support (this was sometimes affixed adjacent to the chassis number on the firewall or stamped into the strut tower.
If in NSW the year model whould be as per original manufacturer rather than the date on the PI plate.
The rego authorities sometimes use the seatbelts as the point of reference for build date as they are all stamped with the OEM date stamps (ok if it has the original belts)

If this helps you, my friend has an imported nissan 180sx which is rego'd as a "2004 hatch" despite it being a 1993 car.
Also typo'd vin sounds superrrr dodgy, I hope it's not a rebirth or something :/

Somewhere here there is a topic where you can enter you VIN and find out the actual month/year it was built
My NA6 was an inport, last six being 102811 and was 8/89 - I will see if I can find it, it comes up occasionally!!

130616 is Oct 1990 according to this:

Well done '93', I knew there was a previous that allowed you to search - many thanks!!
102811 should be August 1989

Thanks!
It's now registered. I managed to get it registered with the correct VIN. Fortunately I don't think there's anything suspicious at play with the incorrect VIN. The typo'd letter turns the car into a motorbike, which would seem to be an odd choice for someone doing something naughty to the car. The Main Roads guy took one look at the car and was happy to go with the old VIN

In some countries Motorbike rego is much Cheaper.
Not so much so in Queensland.
For instance, In Wisconsin, USA, A Harley rego will set you back 28 dollars for 3 years rego.
In Queensland, 450 a year, or more.
