I'd say dodgey, since it sounds like:

You never registered with them
You never bought something from them
You own an old MX5 (ie: not a dealership fresh NC)

Who are BDA anyway?

Yeah that's what i was thinking. Here are their details at the bottom of the email if it means anything.
Just hoping someone has had to deal with them before?

It looks legit, I got one of these a few years ago so I went along they wanted me and about 100 others to look over a new car which was in the design stage and write a report and answer questions about it. the venue was very secure and heavily guarded against the press and other prying eyes.

12 month later the car I saw was launched it was the Holden Barina, when I inspected it it was totally unbadged so I had no Idea which car company it belonged to.

So It may not be anything to do with Mazda, could be someone wanting the opinion of a sportscar driver, or very likely a range of different car drivers...

But if you'd like to be part of designing a new car then go along .. nothing to lose

It says they are working for Mazda. Maybe Mazda gave them your details?

It could be a product clinic, or other market research. Could even be a preview/market test of the ND (unlikely though). In fact it is probably is perfectly legit, but a phone call will settle the matter.

The OP asks how they got his details ... let me be the first to inform you will be on so many databases and mailing lists that your head will swim. Your electronic footprints are everywhere, and it is just a case of matching these to the electoral roll, the phone book, your phone bill etc.

If there is a phone number ring them up ( I just noticed GM said the same) and ask some questions. Getting info on you, your car, what size head you have or whether you buy handbags or snow ploughs is nothing these days. We hit the keys and we are being watched- funnily enough some people do not even seem concerned of what they type or divulge but even the most careful of us give away something.

I received the same email and have already replied to say that I'm happy to attend. Sydney one is at Cammeray on 3rd March. Maybe I'm too trusting but I figure it's worth a look. Could be a fun experience.

Well, if you want I can at least confirm the address is real.

Since that address is about 100m from my work.

Given the timing and following the ND threads on the big forum, I'd suggest it's marketing research for the ND. GO, GO, GO. What's the worst that could happen?

Wish I got an invite but as I bought my MX5 second hand I guess I'm not in any Mazda databases.

I'm still amazed that I came home with a shiny new $100 note in a white envelope when I would have gladly PAID to do that focus group.
