Here's my starter to encourage other suggestions - although I'd have to remove some of the evidence of this one not being quite, ahem, standard:

An NC like Danny's would be close, but I kinda like the idea of a twin turbo V8.

I wonder how many ideal 5's are Engine Swaps

My next 5 will be street registered for a change.

NC with 6.0 Litre Chevy - AUS say no :(

NB with 3.6 SIDI - AUS say no :(

NB with Honda K24 - looking promising so far :)

The MX5 is a pretty good mix as it is, I just wish that either:

It had a decent whack more power
Vic mod laws would let me add power.

How much power do you need or can you actually use?

Finding that limit where power does not exceed driveability or destroy the pleasure of actually driving the car is my ideal MX5 (in NA or NB form of course).

If we're playing make believe, if I could afford my ideal MX-5 I could afford the constant tyre changes.

And it sounds like you're going to tell us just what that limit is very soon!!

If you don't post your own version of Okibi's picture taken on a skidpan, you've let the whole forum down and should be banned.

Does it have to be a road car?

Do i have to drive it every day?

Do road rules exist in this make believe scenario?

No rules Dann. Feel free to imagine a road car and a track car and a tow car if you like.

It looks similar to an NB8B and doesn't have a generic Mazda front.
It has a folding metal hardtop that doesn't give it a 'hunchback' look.
It has a 2 litre DOHC four that puts out about 150kW and averages about 7l/100k.
A 5 speed manual gearbox is standard.
It has bugger all electronics, no remote locking, no mickey-mouse stuff.
It comes with a full-size spare in the boot (the boot lid opens down to the bumper bar) but still has room for some soft luggage.
It has an oil filter that can be changed easily by a human being rather than an Orangutan.
It's reliability is on par with the previous models - so in other words - excellent.
There are no options - it sells for $35K.

My make-believe MX5 would be a Ferrari...
Seriously, an NA with a bit more factory grunt. Once you start talking V8s, it's not really an MX5 anymore.
