I wonder if it is significant that the 4WD ended up on the wrong side of the road.

careless overtake maybe? It seems like head to head with high speed.

As quoted on radio 'at an intersection' - you can be minding your own business, obeying the speed limit but ...

They were probably speeding and carless and old....
Safety ratings compare like-sized-cars with like-sized-cars. A very safe very small car is still going to fair poorly against a very large car.

Wun,
Did you engage your brain before wasting pixels with this contribution?
Greg.

look like a drivers headlight vs a drivers headlight. the smaller car looses. looks like the 4wd has just ran over the rhf wheel and driver of the mx5. thats a terrible head on.

http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2013/12 ... -woodford/The original info didn't say who was in which car. This clears it up and gives further info.
It may not have been relevant in this case but I remain convinced about having headlights on at all times and having a really loud horn.
I'm 59 by the way, and I don't speed on the road and do take care. My reaction time is often shorter than drivers of other ages who may be busy doing something other than concentrating on their driving.
It is true to say though, that if someone really wants to take you out it might not be possible to avoid them. Just watch any of the Russian youtube crash videos for proof of that.
Either driver may have been at fault. There's no way of telling from where the cars are in the pics we get to see, which may be after they've been moved to allow traffic to get through. But I do again wonder why so many people who don't go off road have these big 4x4s, especially when there's so often only one person in them.

Russian crash is more like road rage or some idiot just don't want to wait for a few seconds.

A sweeping statement will often cover all possibilities.
It's a bit like "passing" a test where you have to score 32% to pass and all the questions have three possible answers, and at least one of them is right.

Once again for the laymen who can read, and for those so are so quick to judge and insult others:
http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/road-safety/s ... statisticshttp://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/saferroadsnsw ... rashes.pdfAnd as for driving ont the wrong side of the road, and having a head on collision, you should get a Darwin Award.

Would misspelling the word careless count as being careless?

This forum has gone downhill badly.
A dozen or so posts, and only the OP expressing sympathy for those involved

. Nobody enquires whether the MX was drĂven by someone known in the Qld Club or on this board ... that is sad.
So let me express my sympathies to the family of the victim, and ask the question whether the Qld MX5 community has lost one of its members?
