bad lucky tonight

Just drove through RBT after gym on Orrong road like 5mins ago... And of cause I passed the test but the cops wasn't happy with my neon lights. He said that I am not allow to have BLUE neon lights on my car, because it is for emergency units use. Which is funny, because every Friday I saw lots of limo with their BLUE neon lights on the street and their limo even much taller than my car, which mean their BLUE neno lights are visible. I just did a few research and none of them said that red and blue are illegal, the restriction is all the lights have to be underneath the car and it shouldn't be visible. I have printed out the paper from the GOV website and put in my glove box. Next time I will show it to them.

Fuelling discussion -

What drives a human to make their car look like a UFO at night?

Don't mistake me - your car is a fantastically clean NB...

But in saying that, it's cars with tacky modifications like this that give mx5s a bad name, and make them look cheap. I'll bet that after a general public citizen sees this, his/her thoughts on MX5s will be ever so slightly tainted. Whether it be consciously or subconsciously. Not singling out tescos car - as it's one of many.

I feel like an asshole making this post - but it's just a thought.

Just makes me wonder why...

Dan.

dunno what state you are in, but in qld you cannot have additional coloured lighting added to your car that is the same a emergency colours ie red and blue.

its why council ones are orange and green. its why construction ones are amber.

to be honest, neon lights are illegal full stop no matter the colour you have while driving/moving. so you are lucky he didn't give you a fine for having them on.

he just have you an warning and not a ticket. be thankful you got a nice copper and move on from it following his advice.

Vicroads ones down here are purple.
No idea why they chose purple since all it does is make it look like some kid stole the lights from a nigthclub and glued them to the roof.

There's also the ADRs, which I beleive DOES specifically mention lighting colour. It's been ages since I read the section, but from memory it was:

Visible from rear - must be red
Visible from side - must be amber
Visible from front - must be white/amber or in netween.

That's why trucks have the double sided marker lamps along the trailer, the rear half lights red, the front half amber.

It's 'coz wogs LOVE purple so this prevents them from using purple lighting - if this law wasn't introduced, Melbourne would be blinded in a purple haze at night.

Why drive with them on, you can't see them so all they will do is distract other motorists.

Seen a few hardparked cars with nice looking lighting but on the road it usually looks naff.

I just like the blue neon lights because it is good match with the silver colour and I don't see why it is not under the car. Make your car more stand out more attraction. I can say it is better way to attract people compare with some stupid turbo/big enegine owner.
