Just a quickie (albeit a silly one)

Currently it has a HKS power flow (if im not mistaken) filter but the position is not really ideal and there isn't any space for a heat shield box and is not really possible to reroute it to face the front because of the large diameter.

The flange's internal diameter is 2.5", I am just wondering if is possible for me to squeeze in a 3" K&N pod filter into the current silicone hose? Or would I need to go with a 2.5? The reason I asked is I can't find any 2.5" locally lol or should I just stick with what I have and save the 100$ for something else

I will be fabricating a heat shield around the filter (double-walled aluminum), the white arrow indicates where I want to move my filter to as I will be getting a vented headlight and TSI

What model?

if it's an NB (maybe NA8 as well?) the AFM is the right size for a 3" pod to clamp straight onto the end of the AFM.

If it's an NA then you should be able to get an AFM adapter to suit the pod you want to use.




Also remember that to mount a pod you measure external diameter (the pod has a rubber base that you clamp over the intake pipe)

NB afm is 2.75" not 3". Thats definitely true for an SE anyways, I am just assuming that the regular NB is the same, could be wrong.

Actually, you're correct.

I forgot that when I had a pod on mine I slid a silicone joiner over the end of the AFM to pad it out to 3inch. (from memory the joiner had ~3mm walls, so it added 6mm diameter all up, which is close enough to 1/4inch)

Forgot about that, I went back to stock airbox a fair while back now. (got sick of the mania style intake filling up with leaves)

So long as your transitions are smooth it;s fine to use any sized filter you want. HOWEVER, having a nice bellmouth inside the filter is very important if the filter is very oversized.

Pats na6 went from 325rwhp to 306rwhp just by removing the filter, so instead of having that nice bellmouth it was straight 3" pipe.

TL:DR, choose a good air filter and you should be good, you will need an inch long piece of 3" pipe to join the filter to the 3" transition silicone piece.
