Firstly didn't know where to post this, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Ok as the topic states I have an Australian delivered brilliant black NA6 build date May '93 with power steering and air-con (but a/c was fitted later). Now I have owned this car for 2-3yrs, I am the 3rd/4th owner depending if you count the car yard I bought it from. After coming to a few mx5 meets, meeting other mx5 owners and doing research on the car, everything points to my car being an import. Now I own an import, seen the compliance plate on it and my NA does not have one, hell it looks like Aus plates in the engine bay, everything is in english and I have the books to go along with the car.

Oh, basically was told or heard many times that Aus del NA6's did not come in black or with power steering... How am I looking at one now?

So after a while of pondering I have a few questions I would like to ask.

1. How can I tell if it is an import? I should really say, what would prove that it is an import? Anything obvious, anything definite?
2. Is there a number I can call at Mazda and give them the VIN and get the history or news that it's an import and no history?
3. Same as 2 but outside source (not Mazda)?
4. Does anyone else have a Aus del NA6 in factory black?
5. Does anyone else have a Aus del NA6 with power steering?

Few other things I should add, it has electric windows, manual mirrors, standard daisy wheels, black on black although the seats are a faded grey now, the wider rear number plate garnish.

Now I thought about it and figured being only a few months off the NA8, maybe they started things a little earlier or as black was available since 92 elsewhere, maybe running out the last of the NA6's before the launch of the NA8.
Someone did mention to me recently, maybe someone who worked at Mazda specifically ordered a black one with power steering? A few months before a replacement model comes out, doesn't sound right, but still possible.

I know more history about my '69 corolla that I purchased in July than my '93 NA6, I just want to know what I have.
And yes I will be going over the books again to see if there is anything I have missed, but any info would be helpful

Just checked it, according to the vin Australian delivered.

Still curious to know how many black Aus delivered na6's there is?

Check that the vin isn't bogged or welded on.

Check that the fuse box has English writing, both the main one and the small one under the steering column.

Check that the plate has black as the paint code, call Mazda with the vin to check.

Could have just been a special order!

What colour is the engine bay?

Everything is in english, the engine bay is black, the VIN looks factory fitted and colour code is PZ.

Went through the books last night. I'm not the 3rd owner, and I don't know how many there was, a few random names came up. On the up side I found out it was originally sold from Bendigo Mazda, and it has travelled around, at one stage living in SA, it was a part of the Vic and SA Mx5 clubs.

I just called Bendigo Mazda, and no surprise they have no details that go back that far, but as I was on the phone to them I saw a little sticker.



I'm thinking special order, but can't confirm that without knowing if there are any other Aus del PZ na6's or na6's Aus del with p/s?
Anyone know of any others???

I have an aus delivered na6 with ps. Factory fitted according to my sticker as well January 93 build date.

Also mine has the same special edition thing as yours and is classic red.

Retrofitting power steering on earlier cars isn't all that uncommon

Mine has p/s from factory as per the sticker on the drivers side door jam just like the one stockna posted above. Ill put up a photo tomorrow.

I don't think it's a special edition model. Going by the layout of the rest of that sticker, I believe that it is left blank. Would be nice if someone with a known special edition can confirm this, Emily_mx5 I'm hoping you could or anyone else with a BRG

Now does anyone know where I can find out the history of my car without going to the extent of stalking/tracking (it would be up to the courts to decide the correct term here) down the original owner? I have tried the original dealership, but they want the original rego number, which I am searching for, but still no luck. I'm thinking I may try the Vic and SA MX5 clubs as it did belong to both at an early stage.

Any other help or pathways to check would still be nice to have if you know any? Also if anyone knows a number to Mazda or someone at Mazda where I can track this all down would also be helpful.

I was going to say that this would be an extremely rare Aus delivered MX5 but then on ebay up pops another brilliant black '93 with A/C and P/S!
