NC + road bike

Postby Den » Tue Oct 29, 2013 3:51 pm

Hi guys,

I am currently in the market looking for a NC hardtop, but I am also a recreational cyclist.

I have searched the forum and people suggested to use straps or Saris bones. As far as I know NCs have aluminium boot lids so I don't want to risk damaging it.

I just wonder has anyone tried to put it on the passenger seat, of course with both wheels off and plastics to protect the interior. A photo will be much appreciated.

I can fit mine in the passenger seat of my NA with the roof up and only a small amount of seat out the passengers window, and get both wheels in the boot. I’d imagine at least the frame itself fitting in the passenger seat of an NC.

you can get wheels in the boot :o ? How? No spare wheel (for the mx not the bike)?

I take the passenger seat out, both wheels off, all piled in (or ride where I'm going to go ride, extra k's are always good)

Once you have a NC MX-5 you wont need a Bicycle.
It won't break down on you, You must have owned Fords in the past.

True! No spare wheel in my NA sorry. It came out forever ago to fit an esky in and hasn't been back in since.
Even with the bike on the passenger seat, I'd imagine you could probably fit the wheels behind the seats. For reference; my forks are behind the drivers seat and the right side of the back of the seat is sticking out the window.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Looks to me like someone must make a tow bar for a 5.

PAU61L has made a couple so we can get or track wheels to interstate challenges.

Maybe is you were real nice he could do another one.

thanks guys for the replies.

I was told NC are not designed for towing and that's why I did not explore the tow bar option.

is PAU61L still making tow bars?

What about one of these? I used it quite a lot on my BMW 3 series convertible.
