I have an 89 NA6 that has aircon and no power steering. Was checking it out just before and the aircon went in at the dealer in 91. I got curious about what spec the car was in originally and according to Red Book all 5s come with power steering as standard. Does that sound right?

No ps or AC on mine.

There was no power steering, aircon was a factory or dealer extra.

Aircon was an optional extra.

no powersteering was ever available on the 89 AUS delivered MX5.

Most NA6's didn't come with p/s... most... 89 I doubt any came out with p/s, but I have a 93 NA6 with p/s and a/c. I would say that 92/93 models were given the option

I'm quite sure foreign markets had much different options.

I think the Japanese market NAs all has power steering standard.
Perhaps Redbook have got their specs mixed up (easy to do, there's been 24 years for things to be mixed up)

It's a fact. No Austrlian delivered NA6 came with power steering . My mariner blue which I bought, Brand New in 1991 didn't have any . It wasn't an option either. However air on was.
Lots of grey imports did have . So any AUS delivered NA6 would have had it retrofitted.

In 1993 when the NA8 came out the price jumped from 29.000 to close to $40.000 but it had a bigger motor, bigger brakes, more bracing. Just a much better car.

Oh , my current 1989 doesn't have PS either. But it came with all the whistles & bells.
Air/con, leather seats, alarm, head rest speakers , hard top central locking., Mud guards & front lip. recon the original owner would have put PS into it as well if it would have been an optional extra.

Oh forgot.
The Na8 came with power steering. So after a while they realised. Hell, we have a warehouse full of manual steering racks....what are we going to do with all thesis excess racks?!?
Some bright marketing spark raised his hand & suggested : why don't we bring out a special edition. Like Torsen , Bilstein suspension & well put in Manual steering for the purists.

So the Clubman was born.

That's the story the almighty Bon Hall told us. Probably on this very Forum

Does yours also have power antenna ? & perhaps power mirrors? And is red?
