Appears a good opportunity for someone with reasonable Mazda knowledge and experience, some good ideas, commitment and a good work ethic, plus some financial backup, to build and expand an established name in to a good business.

Before James bought the business, saw it on ebay back around 2005 - seller was on the NSW Central Coast (maybe Larry?), so certainly not a problem relocating it. Personally hope it stays in Melb & is reconfigured similar to how James had it prior to moving within Melb suburbs. In other words, configured like MX5 Mania would be good to provide a focal point for Vic MX5s.

Just sold a house with an enormous shed and moved to one with just a two car garage otherwise might have had a look at this.

Surprized he put his number up their. He never answers it. And part reason customer go elsewhere.

And what motorsport rims do they do? They don't deal with 949 racing no more. So it cannot be those.

The wheels were the biggest thing that business had going for them. But the failure to be available for customer inquiries etc made people go buy Enkeis instead elsewhere, probably killed that good part of the business.

It's not worth the coin being asked. The website hasn't been updated in more than a year, and the only real parts available can be sourced easily elsewhere.

Would be a good side venture for someone already with a ABN, but it ain't worth the coin being asked.

It really depends on what stock is included in the sale.

Really I think he should have sold it 2 years ago when he moved to start his other business.

Since then MX5's have dropped in price, because of that parts prices have, and the MX5 Centre name is no longer one of the big ones in Vic.
(by big ones I mean the old 4 MX5 places everybody knew, MX5 Plus, MX5 Mania, MX5 Factory, and MX5 Centre)

Maybe. My suspecion is that the current stock would need to be heavily discount to make it move off the shelves. Like I posted earlier, it's all stuff than get be found easily elsewhere. Minus a few other bit and bobs. But at a guess, those bits and bobs wouldn't be off the shelf items anyway.

I've seen mower business with $1K weekly income sell for a third of this asking price.

If someone was to buy it. You probably wanna attempt some repairs with 949 management to start getting the wheels back in. And also look at 2nd hand parts from Japan only. No coin to be made of 2nd hand regular parts.

Pretty much.
People buying standard parts tend to also be looking for a bargain.

Personally I think the business would probably need to offer services as well, it's hard to survive as a parts retailer for only one model.
Look at Mania and Plus, they both sell parts, but I imagine the majority of their income is from performing services for people rather than retail.

The big issue is that I doubt the MX5 Centre name has that much goodwill left. It was pretty much abandoned when James moved, which didnt do any favours for the name in the relatively small Aussie MX5 circle (and the even smaller Melbourne one)

You buy them direct from 949. MX5 centre hasn't been dealing with them for over a year.

Yup, customer service has been bad, the website is at best misleading, etc etc.

So the name doesn't have much value.

If there was $25k worth at cost of fast moving stock included for the asking price then it might look better.

James is a great guy, but yes, the business hasn't been his focus for some time. If you were looking to start an MX5 related business, as others have said, you'd be a lot better off establishing your own and building up a good reputation.

Purchasing this outlet and establishing a tie up with MX-5 plus would be a good option.

Publicly bashing James is a very unjust action and should stop now!

Greg,
Apologies if any of the above offended you.

I didn't really see any James bashing though.

Once again, apologies.
