NA6 in 1989 was $29990.

Triple figures, but only just:

And apparently 159 for the year in 2012:

Found this

http://home.mira.net/~redback/mx5/mileston.html

RRP is not 'drive-away' price - RRP for the GT86 was $29,990 in July 2012 but 'drive away' bare bones price was $33,700 in QLD

The FACT is that a base miata can be cheaper in the US than a BRZ /Scion/86 - the difference in Aust is immense.

FACT = Mazda is just dreaming.

Good find! I hadn't been able to source the 2012 figures. Here's an interesting comparison:

interesting comparison. i'm assuming year 3 was 1991 (na) and 2005 (nc)?

you'd expect the NC to drop off sales in the past 3 years ('10-'13). both the NA and NB were 7 year models. the NC been dragged along for 11 so far.

NC was released in 2005.

very interesting comparison - always thought NC was way less...

93_Clubman is correct. In my graph, 2013 was year 9 for the NC and it has roughly another year to go before the ND arrives. This is one year longer than the NA lasted before the NB was released. Interesting to see that the NC has always tracked ahead of the NA in cumulative sales, despite having much more competition.

However to be a fair comparison you would have to make some sort of adjustment to the figures, say calibrate them to be reflective of total market size, to give a better indication of true market penetration.....

Well I could...... but obviously don't think is worthwhile or particularly fair as the far more beautiful and obviously superior NB series sales figures have been omitted so as not to embarrass the more humble results achieved by the NA & NC siblings..... 8) *

You need to take into account the exchange rate in the early 90s vs. 2005 when the NC was released.

Also this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_1990s_recession_in_Australia. New car market dropped about 20% (less than 450k units) and was less than half of what it is at the moment (around a million).
