Re: MX5 & child seat
I've. Been musing over this problem myself.
I have been considering selling the NC2 and buying a 200sx and a motorbike.
I would prefer to get a 4 seat convertible but it must be also:
-RWD
-Japanese
-be enjoyable to drive
And as far as I have been able to discover, such a thing does not exist

change car or buy 3rd car. kid is too small to risk life in the front of a mx5.

buy a $8000 falcodore and a $3000 car trailer. de register the mx5 and use it for track days. car trailer will also save moving costs in the future. and people will always wanna loan it. make $100 a pop.

There was a convertible version of the S13 available and have seen a few turn up in Brisbane at the import dealers down around loganholme just off the motorway.
Another option could be a Z32 2+2 targa top, now very cheap if you get it in na form.

Nissan Silvia Varietta
They are all imports to my knowledge, no AUssie delivered ones (in case that's a concern for you)
1999 Mazda MX5 - 1989 Honda CT110 (for sale) - 1994 Mazda 626 wagon (GF's)

I am at that point in my life where I would prefer the insurance to be easy. Also are these convertibles not turbo? Which to my mind makes it not a 200sx

Maybe if it was an NA or NB but I cannot justify using a NC2 for such a thing. Plus I have a baby now and I'm a lawyer this I barely have time to scratch my arse.

That would explian your twitching and shifting about when I spoke with you in the street the other day.
Greg.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?
Re: MX5 & child seat
Yep, they need to be redlined pretty regularly.sailaholic wrote:Speaking to automotive plus, rx8s that have been babied have more problems then ones dríven reasonably hard. Very susceptible to carboning up if not show redline regularly.
Most RX-8s I saw were very well maintained but you need to find an owner who knew how to treat it properly rather than babying.
Are we all talking about the same 5 star crash rating MX-5s here? Also, the fact that it's small, nimble and light means that there's more chance of avoiding an accident in the first place. Especially compared to a massive hulking floppy SUV that everyone assumes is safer.

Didn't I have the screaming baby with me when I saw you last? Such that the conversation had to be cut short.

So what's your experience with it been like. I don't know anyone that has one (isn't that sad).
I have looked at them before and got scared off by the high fuel usage relative to the size of the engine and power, and the servicing or rather the uniqueness of the engine design and having it served in regional Victoria.

Re: MX5 & child seat
Actually my experience has been great, surprisingly. I say surprisingly because the rx8 was a compromise design - but then so are all cars to some extent.
So like you I wanted a rwd, fun car I could carry a child in the rear of.
Torque is an issue but they improve as the engine beds in, I have also had exhaust and intake changed. You get stuff all – if any – increase in power- but a useful change in the torque curve.
Fuel consumption – I don’t do crazy mileage so not an issue for me. They need to be looked after, rotaries by their design consume oil. So far - has gone perfectly.
I did toy with the idea of a second mx5 for my daily but am glad I stuck with the rx for the extra seats.
