Top Gear - What's next for Clarkson, May and Hammond?

Yawn, I gave it up years ago. Couldn't stand Clarkson and his back to the fifties ideology.

If they refocussed the show on cars and drivers instead of personalities and prejudice, replaced Clarkson, May and Hammond with real drivers like, say, Tiff, Vicki and Jason, maybe changed the production team and changed the title a little then I might watch it. No amount of media stunts will get me back there with the current cast though.

Then after petitions are setup for support for Clarkson and Top Gear the BBC see how powerful the show really is. he uses media to his advantage a lot he is a smart guy despite his Orangutan appearance hahahaha

The only conspiracy theory that could be put forward is that JC reported the incident himself so that the storm whipped up wouid make an exit from the BBC "easy" for him and sticking a knife into the BBC management that he seems to detest....paving the way to a far more lucrative contract at a competitor.

Seriously though I think famous people just get crazy and think they can get away with anything. Pushing boundaries becomes easier when you realise can get away with it, that is until you really cross the line and punch someone in the face.

Top gear has not been a car show for a long time, its a show that just happens to have cars in it.

This, so much this. Anyone watching Top Gear thinking they're going to take in factual statements and objective thoughts on the car being presented is watching it for entirely the wrong reasons. Reviewing cars is like reviewing wine. You either care, or you don't, and if you do care, and have first-hand experience, you probably won't agree with the reviewer on the nuances anyway. Cars and wine are alike there, in that it's all about the nuances.

What it is, and what it excels at, is taking cars we cant have, putting people in them that will drive them like we wouldn't dare, then tell us which of the cars we cant have they'd prefer to drive in a way we wouldn't.

They have "the stig" for getting down to the nuts-and-bolts - how fast a car is around their circuit, everything else comes down to whether you like your wines to have woody undertones or fruity tangs.

Having said that, Top Gear with the current cast as a YouTube channel would be excellent. I suspect if the producers told Clarkson there were no rules to break, he'd be a lot less of a knob-jockey.

Given that most of the cars covered are well outside the price range of most viewers, I always thought it was a given that Top Gear was entertainment, not hardcore reviewing?

It's official.

I just wish Clarkson didn't go out with a such a horrible act committed.
No one should be physically abused at the workplace.

I generally always agreed with his view but he has made it impossible this time.

Top Gear has been an incredibly entertaining show and I am sad to see the end of it.
Especially in this way.

I think it was the only course they could have taken. You can't endorse physical abuse, no matter how much money the person brings in, and when it's public you can't sweep it under the carpet.

This will likely be the begining of the end for Top Gear as a show, it'll carry on for a time but it's viewership will drop, and so will it's earnings. I actually hope this works out well from a car enthusiast point of view and the show returns to being less of an "entertainment" show with cars, and more to an entertaing car show. I just hope that Chris Evans doesn't take over the show as has been suggested, can't stand him.

I wonder if Clarkson will still be involved with Top Gear magazine and the live shows, or are they all owned by the BBC? Will we get to see the final episodes of this season? And what about the hyper car race?!

I am confident Jeremy Clarkson will find other work (before dementia sets in), the Top Gear brand on the other hand will evolve.

Maybe Chris Harris can join TG?

I heard that JC owns 53% of top gear, have not confirmed, maybe it's a rumour.
I've read 7 of JC's books and enjoyed them all.
Saying that I'm appalled at his recent behaviour and I'm guessing Hammond and May are not impressed.

Hopefully a quality car show takes it place but not going to hold my breathe.
