Completed the "SR-71 mod" to add some serious horsepower:

- turbochargers are so "last year" - turning circle has increased a tad and fuel economy has skyrocketed though

Removed the splitter while the car is still on the trailer. Good to know it can be done without removing the wheels. Reinstalling on the other hand may be more difficult. Put plates back on it, I'll refit the passenger seat and remove the wing riser another time and then I should be able to drive it on the road without much trouble again.

Finally, after 7 years, restored the Regamasters.
Amazing wheels, but looking the worse for wear after 20 years and a couple of thousand laps.
Left: tyres stripped, wheels checked for straight and true. Surprisingly no rash, no scrapes and only one trivial dent on an inside rim.
Right: after soaking for a few hours in canola oil to soften up grease, bitumen and balance weight adhesives, then scrubbing with a scouring pad soaked in more oil for an hour before a wash and light sand with 400 wet/dry.

After priming with VHT high temp engine enamel primer

After 2 coats of VHT high temp polyurethane wheel paint in Graphite

All up: probably 8 hours work, 2 cans of primer and 4 cans of colour for a bit over $100. The paint comes out as a nice satin gloss, it covers well and it's very hard.

Hey Manga, any particular reason for using VHT? Just curious...

Mainly that Graphite colour, it's pretty special. The satin works well too.
I'm not tracking the car any more so I don't really need super high temp properties but I do a couple of very long and very steep mountain descents near the coast and in the Snowy pretty regularly. They're still enough to get the wheels too hot to touch.

Re: What have you done today/recently to your 5?
Got it towed to Carco in Canberra to have a new clutch fitted. Blew the clutch at Wakefield Park on Sunday. It happens!
Good thing about the NRMA premium care. Costs a few bucks more but cost nothing (saved me $440) for the tow back to Canberra and nothing for the tow from home to Peter's workshop.
I think a Exedy Stage 1 Sports Organic is the go. Not sure about a lightened flywheel, I think I'll stick with the stock one.

Yep just joined RACT ultimate here in Tassie. They tow you home on a flat tray, no charge from any distance. Great piece of mind.
