ND battery under-spec'd?

I’m a piece of cake to deal with, but I don’t have a lot of time for incompetence. When I make repeated approaches to my dealer and to Mazda Australia about expiring batteries and get told that idle cars dying in 12 days is “normal” and to be expected, and that I should simply drive it more often, I eventually get annoyed.

Couldn't agree more. I don't think I would have lasted as long as you did before kicking over some desks.

Now confirmed by Mazda Australia that a “software fix” is now the prescribed course of action. My car will be getting a software upgrade rather than an instrument panel swap.

Jury is out if it will or will mot be a fix.....if they are anything like VAG.....software fix will cause issues elsewhere.
But then The Japanese tought the europeans how to build stuff.....parhaps they will also teach them how to write code.

Software fix is available in Aus. I’m getting it installed on Monday (19th Feb) next week.

Software update installed....seemingly without any adverse side-effects....other than defaulting my ICE “Sound” settings back to factory. Everything else untouched including Trip and Fuel Averages. Cruise Control On/Off memory retained on shutdown.
