I'd say he has hit hard times :wink:

ND or Porsche

6 weeks on the Gold Coast 6 weeks Riviera PMSL :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'm guessing his original Porsche hit the 100,000km mark, was leaking oil and required the A$30,000 "fix".
If he still owed money on the Porsche, spend that on the "fix" or selling it and buying a new car is a "no brainer".

Could you also have a guess at next weeks lotto numbers while your at it .Gee your funny :lol: :lol:

???

Based on your over-use of emojis, 6 in just 2 posts, you seem to think you're the comedian here.

Did you guess that :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I like the sound of a hard top that could also be a targa.
IIRC Mazda had a similar concept with the series 4 and 5 rx7's, although soft top.
Now I'm thinking that Lightyear should build a CF hardtop/targa for us dedicated NA folk :D
NA6 turbo - 140kw atw - not the most powerful but so much fun :D

Absolutely love the profile of the Coupe rendition. If they fix the front and back on the next facelifted version they could sell me one.

The rear of the new Alfa spyder is what the ND should have been, I ended up disliking the rear end of the ND so much I ended up with a new STI. Interestingly the new Alfa is a ND with a better rear end.

I've never had a MX-5 before, i've always hated the styling with a passion and the price was a rip off for what it was. However, the new styling and new price is significantly better. If anything, it's what a new Alfa Spider should kinda look like (abit a mini version of it).

I am probably going to get the 1.5L GT.

However, I am going to wait until the end of the year, maybe even into next year.

A few reasons:
1) New model means dealers are cocky about the price with all the crap about, "o it's a high demand car", "it's new" blah blah blah, basically dealer speak for, "I want to sell you full RRP", even if it's true, still no reason to pay full RRP, it's a mass produced car not a collector's artwork or something;
2) We don't know what faults might come out;
3) The MX-5 has been a poor seller in Australia for years, the new model is no proof that things will turn around for the model. If sales remain crap in a year, expect the price negotiations to become much more rubbery.

I've bargained with a few dealers and walked out on them, they are dreaming to think i'm going to pay full RRP or take $1-2k off LOL. I'm sorry, but if you buy a car for full RRP and not at least 10-20% off the drive-away price you are a chump. Don't believe the rubbish about thin margins, we are not talking about sub $20k cars, we are talking about $40k+ 'sports cars', there is margin and rebates and kickbacks etc. They are just trying to milk as much money from the fan boys as much as possible.

At $42k drive away 1.5L GT, it is still asking for quite a fair bit. The price drop from the previous model was done out of necessity given how grossly overpriced it was compared to a 86 etc (yes different cars but still very similar in many ways). Yes, it starts at $38k drive away, but who buys a car for over $30k without leather as standard?

Honestly, while a new car / used car are different, you'd kinda only want to get a new mx-5 if it was much cheaper than a used audi TT or something. and the TT has alot more room on the price to bargain. luxury cars always do.

What prices are you folks picking up the ND for? (State as well)

Above prices are for NSW.

As the great Darryl Kerrigan once said: "Tell him he's dreaming!"

Brand new drive away price in NSW is around $42k. If he is asking for $39,999 i'd laugh until the cows came home. Who buys a ex-demo for less than 10% off the RRP price? You can bargain that easily off a new price (I already have twice and walked out because I don't settle for less than 15% off).

I'm not a fan of the Mazda car dealers, too cocky on price, which is fine, for that kind of money, i'll walk out and get something interesting.

lol, if you enjoy paying full price and giving away your own money go right ahead. Not my problem.

I'm sure you'd also like the $500 tint option, $1,500 paint protection pack, $600 rear parking sensors and $250 door mats.

If you can't bargain a deal, then stay quite.

btw, even a car broker can get the deal done at 40k from 42k (including their commissions), I went through a few and they came back around 40k on new stock. given their commissions and kickbacks are around $500-$1000, no reason why you can't cut the deal at 39k direct with the dealer. and this is on a 'new model' with 'demand' and a 'shortage'... blah blah blah, in 12 months these things will just be like any other car... it's not the bloody mona lisa.

Simply a rule of thumb, you always get ripped off on new models, it's called profit maximisation and marketing 101.

Just like anything in life, you just have to be patient and not buy into hype.

I cannot say I agree with much of what Cappuccino said. The ND sells at RRP because it's in demand and discounting is not necessary to sell vehicles - its not "cocky" by the Dealers and it is a transparent transaction i.e. refer the RRP listing. People are not chumps because they did not negotiate less than RRP on a new car which is in high demand albeit because of supply constraints. Some buyers think that everything is negotiable but it's not and in the case of Mazda they will not be at all concerned about the cappuccinos that take a walk out of the showroom.

The price of MX5s today is merely a shift to parity with many other sporty makes that also have tumbled in price- along with most other makes and models. The used can market has taken a caning. By all means wait for a secondhand car but even that should stand up pretty well at this early stage.

To the guys that bought the new Mustang 12 months before it was released - they did very well - some receiving cash back from Ford as a special deal without prior notice and almost surely now having avoided a very long queue.

Not sure how you made a leap of logic that I enjoy giving my money away. My comment was prompted by what I saw as the irony in your overly simplistic diatribe.
