I have noticed on a few mountain drives that MX-5's do tend to provoke a response from other drivers when they appear on the rear bumper. On a recent "lap of the dams", I came across an Outlander on the run from D'Aguilar to Mt Mee who had been pottering along gently, and on my arrival decided to up the pace, crossing solid and double white lines despite me sitting a good 4 to 5 seconds behind.
On the same drive, coming down from from Nebo, came across a Harley rider who had been going along at a sensible pace, who on my arrival, stepped up the pace and ground both of his foot pegs into the road surface on the tight, walled corners, nearly collecting the wall on the way out of the right hander. Again, I was sitting 4 to 5 seconds back.
I certainly don't push hard on the road (too dangerous and too much downside, and Nebo is certainly enjoyable enough whilst staying within posted limits) but there sure are some numpties out there.

When we get to the stage where we need to worry about driving an MX-5 because it might provoke someone into driving beyond there abilities, it is the time to sell the MX-5 and stop driving altogether.
There are enough mal-adjusted people out there on the roads that you would only have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to produce some sort of adverse reaction.
Witness the Tradies that are a constant source of abuse to MX-5s.
If someone kills themselves because the presence of my MX-5 'incites' them to drive beyond their capabilities then that is sad but it is not going to cause me any lasting issues.
The world is full of people who want to blame someone else for their own stupidity.
Decades ago people took responsibility for their own actions.

All you can do is leave space. If people are so tired up in their preconceptions that b they'll react like that, that's their problem.

Proof that MX-5's are the greatest handling cars in the universe and that if you drive one no mere mortal can ever beat you on a twisty road!!!

Exactly right. If someone crashes while trying to follow or catch up to me, that's their fault not mine - I'm not driving their car, and if they're not mature enough to make their own decisions on how they drive and to take responsibility for their driving, they shouldn't have a licence.
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

I completely relate to this. Cruising along at a moderate pace whilst being chased by old magna's swerving across double lines to keep up… The problem is, if you pull over to let them pass, you get stuck behind them in the twisties. I prefer to pull away out of view to remove the temptation to chase.
