It's more about legroom, mate. Some people have longer legs than others, even when they're the same height. Weight doesn't even come into it (well, it can, but legroom is more important and immediate to everyone) :)

Still curious to hear about the NC experience from any NC owners who have experience in NAs and NBs and the difference they perceive between them.

IMO and after experiencing all, the NC is the roomiest and also has a height adjustable steering wheel. I'm 182cm tall.

Mate, there will be people reading this who have owned (or at least sat in) NAs, NBs and NCs.

I am curious as to their thoughts on the interior of each. And they certainly will have had a different experience in each as the interiors are different even within the same generation of cars (different thickness doors, different consoles, different seats, even a different chassis in the case of the NC).

So what MX-5s have you sat in? What is your experience between them all?

We are the same height, JBT. Good to hear about the height adjustable steering wheel. Was that on all models?

(For example, I think when it comes to height adjustable seats, they weren't on the 05 and 06, so curious if the adjustable wheel only came later, too?)

Only ever sat test drove my SE and was happy with the seating position bla bla bla so I brought it . So simple
If it didn't fit the bill I would have looked for something else simple ? so why dose size matter its a irreverent question because everyons different size or am I missing something 8)

For me, it's curiosity. Like I said in the OP, I owned an NA for years, I've sat in an NB8A and NB8B and had a completely different experience in each. And never been in an NC.

I am 186cm tall, long in the leg, and own a 94 NA8, 98 NB8A and 2004 NC.
In all cases my impressions are as a driver with a std drivers seat.
The NC is comfortable, both as my daily drive, and for trips.
I fit in the NA, but feel too tall like I have to crunch down to look under the windscreen surround.
The NB8A is now a race car, but I tried it while it was still standard and found it undriveable due to my right knee being stuck between the steering wheel and the door handle.

Thanks David, sounds like we've had similar experiences, ie: my NA was fine but when I tried an NB8A I was like, "What the...?!?" when it came to where my right knee was at!

I did the same with Liams and Sylvias cars. I fitted in his but not hers! Liam being a big boy had squashed the seat down was the conclusion.

Yep, pretty much :)

It's even more squashed now after 260000km (and completely worn out, but the sparco will have to wait, wiseco and flyin miata have soaked up enough of my cash lately ;) )

The NC feels as roomy (if not more so) with shoes on, than my NB8B does with shoes off.

The first time I got in my NB8B I also squished my knee between the door and the wheel, now I fit quite comfortably.

I am 188cm and once you incline the seat a bit in the NB8B, and push it back till it's wedged in, it's not too bad with the stock seat. I drove for 9hrs straight last week, and was not uncomfortable or felt too high.
But it won't be dríven again with the Oem seat. Race seat bolted to the floor with no seat runners is best if wearing a helmet.

As for interiors this is my understanding about how they rank....

NA, second roomiest, no adjustment of the steering wheel.
NB, smallest, same body shell as the NA with bulkier door cards and dash centre section, still no adjustment of steering.
NB also has larger seats with the NB8a the most uncomfortable and the NB8b/c sitting you higher up.
NC, more room overall with height adjustable steering but no telescoping.

Notes:
- Most roll bars will limit seat travel in the NA & NB with the exception of the Automotive+ short bars and twin hoop.
- Aftermarket seats make more room in NA & NB models depending on how they're fitted. Cutting foam from the seats may also be an option.
- Everyone's body is a different shape so the only way you can tell is to sit in one yourself.

The upcoming ND is reported to have more interior room than the NC despite being a smaller car overall, it also has height adjustable steering but no telescoping.
