IMO only girls will look at an ad for an auto mx5. Should have bought manual and just winged it

^^^^That's a tad harsh, both for female drivers, and those that want an auto.

Wow, how sexist of you.
I have met 5 automatic mx5 owners, 4 were men.

OP, you would do well to remove the major aftermarket bits, as the value they add to the car does not compare to the value if sold separately. May seem like a lot if work, but your bits will sell quickly as wheels and coilovers are pretty sought after :)

Emily has first hand experience so trust her.
My brother has an auto na8. They are gutless. Put out 60kw at a mania dyno day and this is in a car that is already short on power IMO.
People here know the value. Saying that, You may have better luck selling outside of this forum.
I purchased my manual for 6k outside of this forum, spent 4k tidying things up and I'm lucky if I get 6.5k for it. Saying that, I would never bother to even look at an auto but there must be auto drivers out there Having trouble finding the "right" auto mx5.
Good luck!

If individuals do not want an auto then don't buy one . Converting to manual just brings them back into the field of multiple choice - buying cheap MX5s is easy and the vast majority are manuals.. I would not not even think about converting it to manual unless perhaps the auto was in poor shape or expensive to repair- apart from destroying the cars provenance its unlikely to be a worth the effort.

Emily said- "OP, you would do well to remove the major aftermarket bits, as the value they add to the car does not compare to the value if sold separately" I don't entirely agree because a buyer always looks to see what they are buying and a car with nice features such as a hard top figures that into whether a car is attractive to them. The last car I sold I took nothing off and if I had removed those things which I had already enjoyed and used on the car then it merely reduced the vehicle back to the pack. Taking things off can mean the difference between selling a car and not selling it or taking a long time to sell. Take a look even at this forum with people locking in "firm" prices then dropping them.

My punt is that ciz will not have any trouble selling it - excellent credentials roadworthy and low K's.

Slightly off topic but whilst it is easy to convert from auto to manual unless the ECU is also replaced it will never match a true manual.

I also agree with emily_mx5 comments, for example my son drives an auto because he was too lazy to get a manual one.

It's always a shock to find out what our cars are worth on the open market.
I just received my insurance renewal from Shannons quoting the proposed insured value as $9500.
(the fact that it is a 50,000 ks example in pristine condition, loaded with extras is irrelevant)

Sold my stock NB8b 6 months ago for $15 000.
59 kms, classic red.
Service history, Brighton car.
First looker bought it - knew better than to try and haggle.

It was mint and unmolested - details and pics are earlier on this site.
Compare yours to mine - the value is only what someone else is prepared to pay.

I hope I can find one as good when I regain storage and look to replace it.

I think most NA owners need to have a reality check when it comes to the value of their car. They have tumbled in price due to their age for the past 2 years.

Part it out if you wanna sell it. OR if you can afford it, keep it as the run around, as it will sip fuel compared to the falcon.

Yeah, that's about on the money so to speak. Must have broken yr heart to sell it.

A nice lil girly will buy this auto for, um, $6k and won't give a poo what shocks they have.
(sorry Em but that is the demographic even though I am in awe of yr unique mech skills.)

Sorry let me rephrase that, auto mx5 "imo" would suit and be sought after by non car enthusiasts either male or female. I myself wouldn't buy an auto na. Just sayin

$15K for a P2 with 59000 klms is top money and the seller should put that down to all the planets aligning. There are plenty of low mileage MX5s in peoples garages and part of the reason is that these cars are very often purchased just for fun toys. I know plenty of guys who would do well less than 3-5K per ann in their toy car i.e. only on the weekend and only if its not raining .

Insofar as used values dropping that is not new- its been in progress for 10 years or more and the reasons are cheap new cars, buyers not paying cash, low interest loans ,and increasingly buyers with a disdain for used vehicles. MX5 suffers the same problem as many other makes and considerably better than some of the so called luxury brands that are train wrecks in $ terms.

This has gotten rather philosophical.
Take off mods, get your hands on some stock bits, sell mods and car.

I'll take the shocks and hard top ;)
