You need to be careful what you read, some of those items are model specific. Ie timing advance isn't relevant to the n NC in the same way.

And they have a '2" or bigger exhaust".
The mods dont add up to a total, its less than that, and those mods only suit some cars.

Neil SC'd his NC, lots of blokes have full exhausts and are pleased with the results and others have gone by way of handling, suspension, sways and braces, tyres setting etc. Get into the Garage Threads, work out what you really want, research proven solutions, things that others are already using. Get involved with owners groups checkout what they are doing and when the time comes you will be in the position to make informed decisions.

Re: Can mx5 performance be improved much?
It does not make sense to me on a practical basis at all. A car on warranty will be voided by a mod such as a SC. Also a very good chance that an insurer will not cover it either. Doing such a mod also brings into question what it does for the cars reliability and usability related to all the other systems used on the car- e.g. the electronics.Once mods other than simple bolt ons are undertaken an owner is often at the end of a phone rather than the end of spanner and labour / overhead is expensive and does not always get a satisfactory result.
I would not pay much attention to comments about HP- convert that to KW if you can and what does it really amount to? In this instance I agree with Dan. . One can easily buy more powerful sporting cars which have turbos or superchargers. One can buy a used Merc SL for no more than an NC- not everyone would want to mind you. Another practicality is that mods can stuff a cars resale- done carefully maybe not but an SC is going to limit is saleability. Also an SC is going to make putting the fuel in like a family 6- not a economical light car.

Mr M.
And shift it so far from the designers original intentions.
At the risk of 'banging on' at least drive it first.

Re: Can mx5 performance be improved much?
Just as a rule of thumb... Every engine has capability of producing well over 100HP per cylinder. As Dann said, just depends how deep your pockets are.
Sure some motors are cheaper to get parts for, but that rule is always in place.
As stated above, the weak point is not the engine.
It's the drivetrain.
Hell, I spoke to a guy the other day making 500wheel horsepower on his BP1.8 engine and he isn't finished with it. He's aiming for 700HP.

Have a look here and see how much HP you need http://www.060calculator.com/
The MX5 Plus supercharger will give you around 180 rwkw.
I think u will find the MX5 Plus superchargers quoted figure is 180 kw at the engine, not at the wheels. Gt auto use hub rather than chassis dynometers.

Totally agree with this. ^
If you are so concerned about 0-100, then you are missing the whole point of an MX5, and would be better off buying a different car...
Straight line speed has never been an MX5 strong point, and there are many many other cars out there that do 0-100 much better, for less money.

Re: Can mx5 performance be improved much?
Novice1 I'll ask Danny if it is 180 kw at the engine or at the wheels. Yes GT Auto uses a hub dyno as they tune my car as well
If 0-100 is importamt build a drag car that can be run on the street. The drag car objective is, if you can corner you are going too slow!

For what its worth, I changed to a 4.1 rear diff and the difference in acceleration was very noticeable.
Moved the sprint times to 100 from mid 7's to mid 6's - I kid u not.....probably has lost power up top, but that is not an issue for me.
Cost me $1300 but....;-(
