Turns out that the replacement diff it came with which was purchased from (insert store name here) came pre blown, :/ and I'm not keen to fork out more money on this car just yet.

FINALLY I got an mx5

Postby emily_mx5 » Tue Apr 15, 2014 8:47 am

Yeahhh never trust people who are selling a car with all the bits it needs to be fixed. Why didn't they fix it then?

Still, being an NA6 a lot of the diffs are going, they can even fail under stock power levels.

Maybe think about upgrading to NA8 Torsen set up. There are heaps of threads about it. Put some good fluid in and you'll never have to think about the diff again :)

Haven't opened the one on the car yet but I'll remove the last 4 bolts and update soon

I know this is probably not a good idea but who would be interested in parts from a 90 na6 mx5 with a long nose engine :/ I really need a car now and I don't have much money to fork out to repair the car, I might sell as a whole if a good enough offer arises

It would be reasonable to expect that any car purchased for 2k would need some money spent on it. There are always cheap parts going on the forum, however how fast do you need a daily drive car?

Sailaholic, my 'how fast' was how urgent is the need for a daily drive :)

My car does not enjoy the 60 kmh speed limit (the throttle is just too touchy), but the place where it goes from 60 to 100 is fun each morning! I get to enjoy keeping all the 4WD's at the 60 speed limit till that sign whereas they normally take a run up. Plus I then get to power away in 3rd:)

I'm looking forward to having it back on the track soon, but we both have now digressed from the OP...

I am with Magpie, what does ZAB need, who has one and how much will it cost?
Greg.

I only really need a diff and a rain rail. But the rain rail can wait.

I need the car up and running in the next few days, the car I drive at the moment will chew through whatever money I have left in a week, bloody Holden's.

Since I've heard only bad things about the stock 1.6 diff I was looking for a na8 diff, doesn't haveto be a Torsen, as long as it's cheap and effective.

Also with the 1.8 open ended diff will I need a drive shaft and axles?

Yes you'll need shafts and axels. The na6 diff will be the easiest and quickest swap, if you can get once cheap enough just go with it and get yourself mobile.

I'm just worried about the diff breaking with those ugly ass 17" chrome paperweights that were used as rims, well they are more like anchors than they are paper weights :/

One thing at a time Son, find a diff. Post a WTB or Free to a Good home in the classifieds, and keep us posted.
Greg.
P.S. Put me down for $20.00, I do not want to see you walk away disillusioned.

mate just buy a stock NA6 diff.
and buy or borrow a set of standard wheels..

Set you back a couple of hundred dollars at most.

NA6 diff will not break daily driving a car.

If you haven't already go to the Wanted to buy section ( viewforum.php?f=75 )
put up a post saying "WTB: NA6 diff and cheap 14 or 15inch wheels and tyres in Brisbane"

Problem solved.
