Re: Neglected and Molested MX5's
Every time I do a mod I say that is the last thing I'm going to do....but it never stops. Poor thing will never get back to stock even when I sell it. Maybe next owner will do that but I doubt it!

It takes no skill or style to turn a good car into a crap car.
I car shared to work with a bloke who turned an "as new" Holden into a dirty, dented mess in less than a year. he was in the habit of passing slower cars on the left, on the dirt verge. I did not travel with him for long.

Re: Neglected and Molested MX5's
Times have changed.
When I was a 20yo there was not as much you could do to your car.
Body kits and wings were not very common and wheels didn't come in huge sizes and outrageous patterns.
Nobody modded 'sports cars' anyhow, although I worked with a guy who had a Healey Sprite that looked like a mobile Turkish brothel.
He had body stripes and Tiger skin seat covers, a furry tail hanging off the aerial, spot lights, tar babies, nudge bar, mud-flaps with reflectors.
Nowdays he drives an SS Commodore with Chevy badges.

Re: Neglected and Molested MX5's
mine is pretty haggard.
most of the paint is either a very lazy rattle-can respray or flaking off.
big dent in the right quarter that was bogged, probably an inch of the sh*t under the matte white paint.
under tray wore away. frame rails are hammered. bushes are effed.
receives no love and is dríven at 9/10 most of the time.
i might give it a birthday next year sometime, or re-shell all my nice bits onto a better car.

I am not a huge Mod fan either but there are some beaut examples in here, Tescos interior is not to my taste but the quality and thought is amazing, Alex' s car is outstanding, Dann's 'Chrome won't get you home' ethos is great and let's face it, he would never be late and all of my fellow Cardigan wearer's. Guy, just for black, Adam and how do you keep it so clean?, Neil for his groundbreaking SC'd NC, Ben S for showing us that you do not have to spend buckets of cash to be quick (check the Garage thread) The Hoodedreaper, and yes he is a Pom, but what an effort, Emily and her Dad for the inovative way that they got around everything with the engine swap and countless others. We are a community of individuals with very a unique bond, something that I am reminded of everytime that I open the page. Last Thursday night I visited Melbourne and caught up with the Garage Caf'e crowd, the age differences alone is amazing and I feel sure would astound some people.
Pardon an old man's ramblings.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

The age range at our track days always amazes me, you get young guys seeking advice from older guys AND vice-versa. Age doesn't seem to matter to enthusiasts. I haven't ever seen this in any other environment.
