As someone that spent a number of years on rescue crew at my local circuit....1kg fire extinguishers are fkn useless for anything more than a burning pod filter. I suppose you could try and hit the flames out with it.

Ohh I don't know,..... In the days of the halogen extinguishers the 1kg ones could quite easily chill a carton of beer at the end of the day when used by an experienced operator.

And it's quite surprising what a 1kg powder extinguisher can put out when used by someone who has had some training, but yes for the average punter who has never used one before they will generally make a mess of the engine bay without getting near the seat of the fire. The biggest mistake most people use is to get too close to the fire when using the extinguisher.

I had one incident at Oulton Park at a Super touring meeting I got to fire marshall at when on holidays where there was an incident at turn 1 I got to the car saw the smoke of an oil fire, openr]ed the bonnet slowly to evaluate the fire, a small oil fire at the back of the motor where a line near the exhaust had split and dripped onto the hot pipe. I was reaching down with my gloved hand to smother the fire and got hit by 9kg of powder from an over excited flaggie. Needless to say I wasn't happy and the team mechanics were even more pissed off. Probably cost them a motor with the powder that was everywhere in the engine bay and a bastard to clean up.
