Ticking sound

Postby peterd » Sun Feb 16, 2025 10:14 am

Don't know exactly what causes this and whether it can be fixed
But you know the sound you get if the door is open and the ignition is on
When the door is shut I still get a ticking sound
Is it something to do with a disabled siren
Can it be stopped or is it tied in with the immobiliser??

Is it happening in an NB8B as per your sig, or is it another year/model MX5?

Too vague a description. It could be anything.

Yeah nah it's a NB8A

The sound is a tick tok and the red security light
above the fuse box flashes. It's been happening for years ever since I bought it from the previous owner.
I've tended to ignore it as it's not as noticeable when driving and with music on but it is annoying
I'm selling the car at the moment and fixing all the little things rather than pass them on like someone did to me
I guess it's got something to do with a disabled security and or central locking system
I was wondering if it's possible to stop the noise
It doesn't stop the car from starting and running

All sorted. Took it to my local elite car audio and having an after market central locking installed
The next owner is gonna love it. Will have to amend my for sale ad
