Supercheap low profile trolley jack - cheep.

They have a new steel version for only $69.95 (after promo $89.95). Toolpro, black and red colour.
Goes down to 90mm (always thought it would be easy to modify a normal one to go lower).
But suspect it has the cheap lowering function (turn the separate fitting).

Thanks for the heads up: There were no left on the shelf at Supercheap Thebarton, SA. And before i could finish "16.." the guy behind the counter said "theres been a run on the 1600 low profile jacks and he had sold out". He had actually, "Just sold the last one". There was a nice low red MX5 with 15 inch enki RPF1in the carpark....I wonder if he/she is on here!

Tell me, does it have the cheap lowering mechanism. A separate knob u re-insert the handle over?

yes Bruce - standard basic jack mechanism. It's no alloy race jack, but for under $70 you can't complain

my local supercheap has them so im grabbing one this arvo because my current one doesn't go under the 5. thanks for the heads up.
i know the people at my local one so sent them a text and they come in Blue and Red, all my tool chests are Kinchrome and my other jack is Bluepoint so i got the blue to match the rest of the garage

Nope, not sure where you are going with that.
Still has to meet Aus standards and you shouldn't be under it without stands. For the task of raising and then lowering a lightweight sports car on to stands it is more than sufficient.
Is it as good as my bluepoint? No. But about 1/15th the price.
would I try lift my heavily modified Nissan patrol with it? No. I have had hoists fail to lift that.
Will I lift one end of my car that has a total weight of 1035kg with half a tank of fuel so I can put stands under it, yep. Already lifted the rear end to test it and no effort what so ever.

Unpacked mine this arvo and the quality seems ok. Probably better than I expected, I think it's the only mechanical tool I have without a lifetime warranty but I don't need to make a living from it, it's to lift my toy on to stands a couple times a year.
Yes it has the basic jack lowering through a seperate screw and is not lowered through the handle.
Wheels are noisy small steel ones not large poly.
Handle is short about 600mm with no rubber padding to protect accidental contact with the car and if I used it often would make a longer handle.
So in short you get what you pay for and you can see that these areas they saved money on but it will do what an mx-5 owner would intend to do with it.
Oh and the people at super cheap made a mistake and only come in red not red or blue so I have a fast red one

If you want a very heavy duty trolley jack that will get under the MX-5, check out Costco. I was amazed at the quality of the jack and it slipped nicely under the front end of my NA6. I cannot remember the price I paid, but I remember it was a steal for such a good piece of kit.

I did a lot of research on trolley jacks for MX5s a couple of years ago and couldn't find any cheap ones that would fit under the cross-member (there is 130 mm available)
I found a more expensive one but having got it way under there, there wasn't any room for the handle to move to crank it up as the lifting-point is 800 mm back from the front of the car.
OP said the handle of the Supercheap one was only 600 mls long - so how does that work? (never used a trolley jack so that is a serious question)

I have no problem jacking up my ND with this jack. However after I lowered the car with coilovers, the jack could not slide under from the front. It's not as convenient but I could work around it by jacking the sides or lifting up the car slightly.

I've had a similar problem with a Repco jack I was given as a gift. I was able to get the trolley jack under the jacking point after I got the car up with the Mazda scissor jack, but then I couldn't crank it up without hitting the bumper . I might try the Supercheap one and see if it's any better.

I've got a couple of wooden blocks (cut out of garden sleepers) which I drive onto before Ijack any car.

Makes it much easier...
